The Raiders are expected to settle on their next head soon, and the popular opinion right now is that it’s going to be either Klint Kubiak or Davis Webb.
Kubiak has been the most popular candidate in recent weeks, but Webb seemed to gain a little momentum as of Monday evening, if for no other reason than the fact that ESPN’s Adam Schefter keeps omitting his name when asked about the top candidates for the job.
Webb finished his second interview with the Raiders on Monday and left without a deal, so it will be interesting to see if the conversation swings back to Kubiak on Tuesday.
If Kubiak ends up being the coach the Raiders want, there will be an element of risk involved, and flagship radio host ‘JT the Brick’ brought up that topic on his latest show.
“I’ve been leaning towards Kubiak the whole time. I think Kubiak is the guy, and he’s not flamboyant, and he’s probably not going to blow away anybody in an interview from what I’ve heard about his persona. But you saw the way he called that game in Seattle and some of the decisions that were made from an offensive perspective,” JT said on his Raider Nation Radio show on Monday.
And most Raider Nation thinks that Klint Kubiak probably could be the right call, but you got to wait till after the Super Bowl and that’s a risk. I’ve been talking about that here for a couple of weeks, and I think we’ve owned that topic as good as anybody. Risk reward. And I framed all the different risks and rewards that you can have in life. If you want to wait for something, you want to wait for your dream sweetheart, you better make sure they don’t leave you at the altar.”
What JT was getting at is the fact that Kubiak can’t officially take the Raiders’ job until after the Super Bowl, and if he reaches a verbal agreement with the Raiders before February 8, he can back out at any time.
It has already been reported that the Seahawks are pushing hard to keep Kubiak in Seattle, so with the energy and emotion of the next two weeks, there would be some assumed risk to waiting around for Kubiak.
The Raiders have been through a lot in the last few years, but there aren’t many scenarios that would be more embarrassing than losing Kubiak at the 11th hour and being forced to circle back to the candidates they initially turned down.
There are still questions looming over the power structure in Las Vegas, and the conversation around Tom Brady’s role with the organization isn’t one that has been put to rest.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero talked about that dynamic on Monday.
“Las Vegas… you’ve got Tom Brady ostensibly running the football operation along with John Spytek. That’s directly a quote from owner Mark Davis. And yet, people come out of those interviews just going, ‘Who exactly is running the building?’” Pelissero said on the Rich Eisen Show.
“What exactly… what am I looking at here? Tom [Brady] lives in Miami. How is he co-running the football operations from 2000 miles away? Again, and in a really tough division where you’re going up against Sean Payton, and Andy Reid and Jim Harbaugh.”
The Raiders put out a statement after the season that Brady and Spytek will be running the football side of operations, but it seems like not everyone is convinced the power structure in Las Vegas is one that makes sense.
After Pete Carroll wasn’t a fit with the organization in 2025, there’s a good chance that some candidates are still skeptical of the role Brady is going to have going forward.

Why did the Raiders let Webb leave the building without a deal? Go get him so we can start planning for the draft and free agency.
