Sounds Like the Raiders Might Have Had a Little Change of Heart on Eli Apple

Eli Apple was all set to be a Raiders starting cornerback (or a favorite to win the job) right up until Thursday evening when ESPN’s Adam Schefter delivered the news that the deal had fallen apart.

According to Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the hangup in the deal had to do with the physical and that’s an interesting development, especially considering The Athletic’s Vic Tafur had already reported a case of “cold feet” on the deal, presumably on the Raiders end of the deal.

Not saying the Raiders made up something in the physical, but if the Raiders were already on the fence about the deal (maybe because it came together furiously after missing on Byron Jones and Chris Harris Jr.) it probably wouldn’t take much of a bad health report to turn them off.

“History of ingrown toenails, Eli?… we’re not going to put up with that around here.”

Just a guess, but Mike Mayock and company probably aren’t losing sleep tonight in their social distancing chambers. If anything, the Raiders have a little room to breathe now in terms of salary cap space.

Oh, and did anyone happen to see Dre Kirkpatrick was cut by the Bengals in the past 48 hours? One of Paul Guenther’s guys in Cincinnati, no less.

Look for the Raiders to rebound quickly from this little bump in the road.
