Hugely experienced and decorated NFL coach Pete Carroll may have only moved to take over at the Las Vegas Raiders in January, but it appears the 73-year-old is already very much working his magic on the Allegiant Stadium organization.
The Raiders last won a postseason game in the 2002 season and last season suffered a soul-crushing 4-13 regular season record, their joint worst since 2014, but the feel-good factor that has come with Carroll’s arrival is palpable.
Las Vegas Raiders fans may well feel that Carroll can make an instant impact and could be considering placing a bet on their team for the 2025 season. Carroll’s first season in the NFL as a head coach came way back in 1994, and his overall regular season record currently stands at 170-120, which places him joint 17th on the overall list.
His 13-year spell at the Seattle Seahawks ended in 2023, and he won the Super Bowl with the Lumen Field franchise before moving into a senior advisor role in 2024, but he has opted to get back into the game at the Raiders.
His impact at the Las Vegas Raiders is already being felt, with many players coming out and discussing how the ‘Pete Carroll Effect’ is working its magic, including safety Isaiah Pola-Mao, who commented.
“I’ve never had a head coach really hands-on with the DBs, so it’s different for me,”
“But I love it. And at the same time, Pete’s legendary. Learning from him, he’s seen it and he’s done it, so he knows what it’s supposed to look like. I’m just learning, listening, and trying to take it all in.” Pola-Mao added.
Carroll’s hands-on nature is certainly one that makes him a favorite with the players, and one wonders just what he can achieve in Las Vegas.
In his 18 NFL seasons as a head coach, Carroll has led his sides to the postseason on 12 occasions, which is a remarkably consistent record.
As for 2025 and what it may bring, well, Carroll is looking to improve his roster and is, by all accounts, not done.
Germaine Pratt and even Jaylon Smith have been brought in, and Jalen Ramsey is another on the radar.
“You’re either competing or you’re not,” Carroll stated, before adding.
“We ain’t letting up now. You saw that we just signed a guy, or got a guy committed yesterday, and we’re going to keep working on it. There’s no time to turn away from having a chance to get a little bit better. So, we’ll be on it.”
Draft pick Ashton Jeanty is one player that Carroll will hope helps push the Raiders in the right direction, and the running back is already a player who is tipped by many to be the Rookie of the Year, so there’s a lot to look forward to for the team’s fans under this new regime.
