Trade rumors around Davante Adams have calmed since the start of preseason, but there’s no question they will gain momentum again by the end of October.
The stars are aligning for Adams to be a popular trade target before the deadline, and one trade partner that might make sense for the Raiders is the Detroit Lions.
The 33rd Team’s Ian Valentino brought up a trade idea last week that would send Adams to Detroit in exchange for third-year wide receiver Jameson Williams.
“Everyone wants to see Davante Adams on the Jets, and the idea of pairing Aaron Rodgers with a familiar face in Adams makes sense. But the Detroit Lions are America’s team right now, so putting the 31-year-old on the league’s most fun offense is a better fit. Detroit should be all-in, and its WR2 situation isn’t up to snuff for a Super Bowl run,” Valentino said.
“Detroit’s cap situation is healthy enough to absorb Adams’ $16 million base salary right now, and then minor trimming in the future makes this a palatable deal,” he continued. “[Adams] has $0 in guarantees beyond this season, so a restructuring could also make his contract more favorable. In return, the Raiders clear off $17.5 million in 2024, then more than $36 million in 2025 and 2026. Taking a flier on Jameson Williams is what gets this deal across the finish line.”
Williams has only 25 receptions in two NFL seasons, but injuries are mostly to blame for his lack of production, and he is still only 23 years old.
It’s no secret that head coach Antonio Pierce would like to emphasize the running game, and adding a track star like Williams would certainly make it difficult for opposing defenses to move safeties closer to the line of scrimmage. Williams also has a rookie contract that stays under $6 million in each of the next two seasons.
The downside to Williams is that he isn’t a polished receiver at this stage of his career and it’s possible that he never will be. For that reason, the Raiders should be able to get a decent draft pick along with Williams in any trade that would send Adams to the Lions.
As an aside… reports from training camp indicate Jakobi Meyers has been playing well and the Raiders might feel a little emboldened in the weeks ahead to see what they can get for Adams prior to the November 5 trade deadline.

Wow,stop copying insane writers on sports media who have zero knowledge of the sport they supposedly cover, enough already my God 😔😔😔😔😭😭😭😭😭😭😭.
Lions would never trade for an older player and take a hit on cap space, for what???
They’re smarter
For what??? Oh, I don’t know…maybe their first Super Bowl!!!😂🤣
Did you realize trading Adam’s triggers a 40!million dollar cap hit? Plus what message does it send to others like maxx and other captains that your trading a future hold jacket? Says your quitting ..we should be in the hunt at the trade deadline.
How dumb does one have to be to state this?
Also, as fantastic as Williams looked in college, apparently his focus has not been great in the pros. I would not do such a trade. I wish this site were more serious and less click-bait-y. We deserve better coverage.
This is, by a very wide margin, the least intelligent article that I have read this year!
JUST STOP!!!!
Raiders are not trading Adams period. Just stop
