Tom Brady is expected to be a big part of the decision on the next Raiders’ quarterback and if it carries any weight, Brady announced this weekend who he believes to the best quarterback in college football.
According to Brady, Notre Dame quarterback C.J. Carr is the guy.
“C.J. Carr looks like the best quarterback I have seen at the college level since Joe [Burrow] was at LSU,” Brady said on FOX. “He knows the game, and he can make every throw necessary.”
Unfortunately for Brady and the Raiders, Carr is only a redshirt freshman and isn’t eligible to be drafted in 2026.
But there’s also another detail to keep in mind on Brady’s statement. He has a tie to the 20-year-quarterback that might make him a little biased.
“Now, mind you, [Carr] is the grandson of Lloyd Carr [and] Lloyd Carr was the coach of Tom Brady [at Michigan], so there’s obviously a tie there,” draft analyst Todd McShay reminded everyone on Monday.
For what it’s worth, the potential first-round quarterbacks Brady will get to choose from in this year’s draft are Ty Simpson (Alabama), Dante Moore (Oregon), Fernando Mendoza (Indiana) and LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina).
It’s a little early to start talking about the draft, but Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter made an interesting comment about Mendoza last week.
“[I am] hearing some interesting stuff about Raider scouts and Mendoza at Indiana. Just keep an eye out there on that,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.
“I’m not saying he’s going to be the pick. I’m just saying that I’m hearing some that there’s that I’m hearing from people, other teams, I’m hearing from people around Indiana and some other things that the Raiders seem to have keen interest in Mendoza, which they should. They need a quarterback, and they’re trying to find out, is he our ride or die? It doesn’t mean that he is.”
Presumably, the Raiders have keen interest in all of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft, but for reasons that only Carpenter would know, he seems to believe that there’s something separating Mendoza… or at least that’s the impression someone is putting out.
x: @raidersbeat

So Hondo says that he’s heard the Raiders have interest in the quarterback who’s probably going #1. Now he’s not saying he’s gonna be the pick, but he’s heard things, from other teams so we should keep an eye on this. Darn! What a thought provoking podcast this guy must have! Can’t believe I’m missing out on groundbreaking stuff where the Raiders are looking at the most important position in football cuz they lack it.
As far as Brady. Yeah Patriot boy, you never SCOUTED Burrow @ LSU. And guess what you already blew our chances @ D Jones & Darnold. Unless you’re gonna provide all the player evaluations you’ve done STFU
Preach it brother! Hondo is terrible at what he “does” and Don’t you wish Mark would see there is a problem with Brady half-assing his role of “football operations guy”. He brings next to nothing to the organization except terrible player evaluating skills, terrible roster oversight skills, terrible coaching and GM evaluation abilities, and terrible announcing skills. Throw in those and the fact he payed less than market value and Mark and the team look extremely worse now than before Brady.
Remember that Seinfeld episode with Dan Cortese? Mark is George Costanza, he sits there and stares @ Cortese with puppy love cuz he wants to be just like Cortese but has to suck up to him
Yep. Mark and his man crushes. First Gruden, then Ziegler, now Brady. The guy can be talked into anything.
Hilarious, just because Tom was a good QB doesn’t mean he can evaluate QBs or any other player at skill positions.. That’s usually the scouting department s job..Based on his not wanting Sam Darnold over Geno shows he’s not a good talent evaluator.. Unfortunately Raiders are garbage and will continue in that mode for yrs to come.
Pete should resign immediately and they should hire a college program builder.
A full rebuild
Mark said Brady is here to help pick their new quarterback. We are so screwed with Mark
The Brady Bunch has driven the Raiders to lower depths, when no one thought possible! The assembled roster has too many holes and the draft class doesn’t look too promising. We would get into the QB situation, it speaks for itself.
