Shedeur Sanders was projected by some to be a top 10 pick on Thursday night, but his slide out of the first round ended up being one of the biggest storylines of the first round.
Now Shedeur the popular thinking is that Shedeur will be drafted in the first part of the second round, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter says that might not happen, either.
“I won’t be surprised that Tyler Shough goes ahead of Shedeur Sanders tonight. I think there are not a lot of teams that love the idea of drafting Shedeur. I think now we’re at the point where unless he goes in the third round, No. 83 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who had a discussion about him on the board at No. 21, I think we may get a team that we never connected to him,” Schefter said on ESPN’s NFL Live.
“I don’t know what team that is, but I’ll give you some examples right now. And again, I’m just hypothesizing… The Seattle Seahawks, the Arizona Cardinals, and—hold on to your head—the Dallas Cowboys.”
For the Raiders part, there hasn’t been any indication they are considering Shedeur in the second round.
Ultimately, the story around Shedeur this year has been a perfect storm that hasn’t been entirely his fault. He’s responsible for his interviews with teams, but the influence of Deion might be the biggest concern teams have with Shedeur.
As Schefter pointed out, a team like the Cowboys, who might be interested in hiring ‘Coach Prime’ as their head coach in a year or two might be the perfect landing spot for Shedeur.
Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones would welcome the attention the Sanders family would bring to Dallas and Deion is starting to build an impressive coaching resume in the college ranks. Another winning season at Colorado and he might be a tempting hire for a lot of NFL teams.
