Every indication is that the Raiders are zeroing in on Klint Kubiak to be their next head coach, and for the first time in a while, ESPN’s Adam Schefter acknowledged that Kubiak is a top candidate in Las Vegas.
Leading up to Thursday, Schefter has not been quick to mention Kubiak as a top candidate for the Raiders’ job, but on Thursday he said he believes Kubiak will take one of the NFL’s two remaining head coaching vacancies.
“Both [the Raiders and Cardinals] now seem to have some level of interest in Klint Kubiak,” Schefter said on ESPN’s NFL Live.
“Both will wind up talking with him this weekend and we’ll see which one can land his services if they’re even willing to lure him into their head coaching jobs. One will get Kubiak in all probability and the other will move on to another candidate.”
League insider Tony Pauline has downplayed Kubiak’s willingness to take the Cardinals’ job, but what was interesting about Schefter’s comments is that he seems to believe Kubiak is going to fill one of the NFL’s two remaining head coaching vacancies – even if it happens to be the Arizona job.
There has been talk of Kubiak returning to the Seahawks for another year as their offensive coordinator, but listening to Schefter, it doesn’t sound like that is a likely scenario.
As for the Raiders, there has been some buzz around Denver passing game coordinator/QB coach Davis Webb, but Webb removed his name from consideration for the Raiders’ job on Thursday.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler pointed to Ejiro Eviro as the new the no. 2 candidate on the Raiders’ list, but all signs are still pointing to Kubiak ultimately landing in Las Vegas once his season ends with the Seahawks in Santa Clara.

NO CHANCE THE TWO STOOGES, BRADY AND SPYTEK, LAND KUBIAK NOW. AT THIS POINT HE’S PLAYING THESE IDIOTS FOR LEVERAGE WITH ARIZONA. RAIDERS GOING TO BE LEFT STUCK WITH EVERO TRYING TO DEVELOP MENDOZA LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
And you’re an idiot!
Stupid reply. If you can’t cite reasons then shut your mouth, moroon.
We’re dysfunctional and Brady’s role absolutely needs to be clarified, but there’s not a chance in the world that a strong candidate could choose these Arizona, who have the QB position uncovered, over the Raiders with Mendoza … Jenty Bowers and 140 million free as soon as you cut Geno .. so at this point either he comes to us or he stays where he is for another year
No one one.wants to coach the Raiders. No one wants to work for an organization that fires it’s coach every year. No one wants to report to Brady. No one wants to be second guessed by Brady. No one wants Brady looking over their shoulder.
THE TWO STOOGES, BRADY AND SPYTEK, PUT ALL THEIR EGGS IN ONE BASKET, KUBIAK, AND WILL END UP WITH NOTHING. THE TWO STOOGES, BRADY AND SPYTEK, BLEW IT WITH BEN JOHNSON LAST SEASON AND NOW WITH KUBIAK THIS YEAR.
WHY DO THESE IDIOTS KEEP PUTTING ALL THEIR EGGS IN OKE BASKET? WHY DO THESE IDIOTS KEEP MAKING THE SAME MISTAKE EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RESULT? WHY ARE THESE IDIOTS RUNNING THE RAIDERS?
Dude, what’s with the ALL CAPS? Are you 10?
Hahahaha! That’s some funny **** right there!
Kubiak is not coming here. The guy that actually did want to be here, Webb, said see you later. Spytek and Brady are clowns. Ben Johnson last year, Kubiak this year, who will be this year’s Pete Carroll aka Coach Biden?
Let’s bring Dick Vermeil out of retirement. How about Rich Kotite? At this rate, yhe Raiders will be lucky to sign the ghost of John Robinson.
Brady and Spytek did not hire Pete Carol, Carol was the last resort, because they dragged there feet waited for Johnson after the Super bowl, where he went to the Bears because they had a quarterback in place, we didn’t,
If they didn’t hire Carroll then who did?
Well it is Vegas and so far each year they gamble and lost… the environment is toxic and the atmosphere is KAOS…we need Maxwell smart agent 86 he’s worth two 43s… most of all they need to come back to Oakland. Or any place in California. There’s no home field there… that place will still make its money even if the home games are in Oakland…fix the bathrooms Please….. RAIDERS….
Kubiak has to ask him self a question, do I want to coach a QB that has had other coaches fingerprints all over him, as in Murray or do I go with the Raiders with Mendoza where he gets a fresh young quarterback with great potential, where nobody has f***** the mechanics with their coaching styles or stay in Seattle where you have a veteran that has always been good just needed a right OC, and just how bad does he want to be a HC
Or he could be asking himself do I want to go to a place where they fire a coach every season? Do I want Tom Brady hanging over my shoulder watching every little thing I do? Do I want to have to answer to Spytek AND Brady?
The Raiders need, in addition to a competent offensive line, competent veteran quarterback depth, namely mobile Malik Willis as the starter, who would cost much less than and, is younger than Lamar Jackson and is on the rise. Seek out a trade for mobile, battle tested and cerebral Joshua Dobbs, from the Patriots, as the backup and then draft Fernando Mendoza, on a rookie contract. That way Mendoza won’t be under pressure to start immediately and can do what Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love did, sit for three years and learn. That’s how you add competent depth at this position. Thereby, by the time Mendoza is ready to start, hopefully, the Raiders will have built up the team in other areas. Additionally, go get Philiph Rivers to mentor all three quarterbacks. In my opinion, there is NO better person to mentor young quarterbacks than Rivers.
Also, it wouldn’t hurt to address the (not so) Special teams. The offensive line and Special Teams coaches could use a serious upgrade. Look at how Seattle has revamped it’s special team. Systemic, systematic rebuilding is the road to return to respectability. What everyone can agree on is the past few attempts at short term fixes have not produced effective results. It seems that we are stuck with the guys who call themselves “Raiders Management,” so let’s see how they, this year, address last year’s “team” and debacle that they put on the field.
Kolton Miller, Stone Forsythe, Zamir White, Dillon Laube, Tyree Wilson, Alex Cappa, Kenny Pickett, Geno Smith and lead footed, immobile Adian O’Connell all need to be let go. Their contracts could be used on inexpensive youthful players with tremendous upsides and, to a lesser degree, injury histories. Additionally, get a couple of fullbacks who are tight end body types and USE them on third and short instead of putting additional pressure on Ashton Genty. That’s called being innovative and pragmatic. The Ravens “sometimes” use Derrick Henry as a battering ram on third and short. At the very least, the Raiders should consider, if not incorporate, this tactic.
