With so many players out of the lineup, it wasn’t a big surprise that the Raiders weren’t able to beat the Steelers on Sunday.
It was a competitive game for a while, and definitely a game the Raiders could have won, but that’s a discussion for another time. Too much has gone wrong this year to believe the Raiders could hold up against the Steelers or, in the bigger picture, have a realistic chance of making noise in the AFC.
With that in mind, let’s make three predictions around the Raiders that don’t feel particularly bold at the moment…
Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy will be fired.
Head coach Antonio Pierce has to try something to fix the offense. Maybe a different voice leading the offense would do some good.
If nothing else, Luke Getsy’s play-calling has been questionable, and the Raiders are desperate to get something figured out on offense.
Getsy might not be the reason the team has been a disaster on offense, but evidently, he isn’t the solution.
Before the season gets too far down the road, it might be a good idea for Pierce to see if senior offensive assistant Joe Philbin can turn the offense around.
Davante Adams will be traded.
Everyone knows about the trade request Adams made 13 days ago, but what hasn’t been talked about as much is that the Raiders were probably going to trade him anyway. Only if they have a realistic chance at the playoffs would keeping him make sense.
Since the Raiders don’t look like a playoff team, or anything remotely close, the decision to trade Adams should be an easy one.
We know Adams wants to find a new team and there’s no reason to keep him in Las Vegas for the second half of the season if you already know he isn’t coming back next year on his current deal.
Adams is a virtual lock to be on a new team by the second week of November.
Aidan O’Connell starts at quarterback for the remainder of the season.
It doesn’t look like the Raiders have a franchise quarterback on the roster, but there’s still a chance O’Connell can be a good quarterback in the league.
O’Connell reads defenses better than Gardner Minshew and he is infinitely more accurate throwing the ball.
The Raiders know what they have in Minshew, and he can play a role on the team this year and next. But for the remainder of this season, the quarterback focus has to be on O’Connell.
It’s a long shot, but the organization has to definitively rule him out as the team’s quarterback of the future.
To this point, that hasn’t happened.
It might be probable that it will happen, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Raidernation deserves better than this! this is just ridiculous! why is it o.k. for the Raiders to play games and sit on millions of dollars and not try to build a decent football team? then when fans complain the media says they are being unfair and traitors to the team they love to put down anyway!
Its’ not o.k. to be naive its’ not like the new Raiders’ regimes haven’t shown where they stand. The Raiders had a culture, its’ own vision and system. Now its’ ruined by people who got into the team and started firing long time employees and causing problems. Don’t blame Mark for this he didn’t make any football decisions.
Now, we gotta deal with somebody buying a stake and become a partner. Most of these outsiders weren’t people Al would want on his team. I guess the team will suddenly start winning when new stake holder have more say in it? that’s sad it shows corruption and a dislike for Raidernation. Fans should know the Davis family tried to be fair to them but these NFL people want money and they want the Raiders to be like other teams- money first. A new partnership will be more conservative and want to get rid of more of Al’s era on the team.
I’ve sad it before, mark Davis, isn’t a AL Davis. If the raiders r going to be a contender, he needs to sell the team and sail off to the sunset.
Mark davis needs to sell the team.
Luke was terrible at the Chicago Bears when he had Justin Fields as QB. Justin is doing a lot better since then but Luke still sucks.. Not sure if Adams had anything to do with getting Luke since they were together in Green Bay.
It is time to move on from him. I know its hard on O’Connell having gone thru new coaching in his time here but think it will be a benefit to move on from Luke now.
With all the hype and energy we had going into the season it feels like someone walked over and popped my balloon and told me to go home. Such a frigging disappointment. You know you can put it on Getsy, but it starts at the top! AP was an assistant coach, now HC and honestly has mafe some questionable calls. Hate to call it, but it might be time to bring in a HC with experience.
Sorry, MADE some
I agree with all points here. And I’ll go one further. As painful as it is to say, if AP doesn’t quit making huge mistakes like not challenging that TD that turned into a turnover the next play, a house cleaning should happen at seasons end. And Davis should lean heavily on Brady for a possible replacement no Telesco.
They r in a rebuild mode not going well and they r tanking to get a high draft pick to get a golden boy qb and do the same thing the brown did a keep getting qb and that’s not the answer to be real honest Davis need to sell the team in hopes of doing better he’s done al wood not be happy with him so far
Telesco is the problem period. We had a running back and the GM didn’t want to pay him. How’s that working out??? We so badly need a qb, so we were not able to aquire one where we were sitting in the draft. Then we got the best player available in Bowers great! But you don’t stop there get Justin fields, Trey Lance, Hendon hooker go to the stream and uncover everything, every rock you see. Find the qb, you Mr Telesco are the problem not coach AP or anyone else. You need to go soon. He is freaking begging you for help.
FIRE TELESCO NOW.
I am one of the ones that wanted Adian O’Connell as starting QB. Wasn’t looking for Luke Getsy as OC. Yet we have a very young front line. So I was willing to wait 6 weeks for O-line to jealing together. But we might have to trade for Hendon Hooker.
AOC is not the problem! The problem lies with your offensive linemen and potentially your offensive coordinator. The linemen must establish a wall of protection for AOC. Give him the time (2.5 seconds) and he will be successful.
Smartest comment ( other than mine ) I’ve read on this site all year
Look, Aiden O’Connell is not the future. He’s a back up qb at best. We need a franchise qb. Next year the raiders. Need to have the first pick in the draft no matter what it costs. And I mean if they have to give 2 number 1’s and mad max. We’re not winning with him anyway. Keep it real, peace out.
Nobody is talking about the offensive line. I don’t know if it’s coaching or personnel but if running backs don’t have holes to run thru and QB’s are getting banged up it seems to me we have a line issue. It won’t do us alot of good if we get our QB of the future next draft and he gets pummeled and loses his confidence. See Jim Plunket when he was drafted by the then laughing stock of the NFL Patriots. He was beat to death nearly and was a broken man. 9ers picked him up for cheap and thought they could start the “broken man”, wrong! Raiders got him for free and sat him for over a season before he got his chance to try again. We don’t want this to happen to us!
It’s safe to say that no other team, but the Raiders, seriously considered AP as their HC. And we are now seeing why. The team has no discipline (turnovers and penalties) and no heart (they quit when something goes wrong). Should have just traded Crosby when he threatened to leave if AP wasn’t retained. No player should ever be in position to dictate the HC selection to a team. It all goes back to Dummy Mark Davis. ANOTHER lost season for the team and fans.
U traded Away mack don’t do the same with Crosby one best in football
It’s understandable to blame losses on injuries it’s part of the game it happens around the league however good teams overcome and find a way to win. I’ve been a Raiders fan for over fourty years and it’s getting hard to watch the team I’ve been passionate about for so long. The hiring of Luke Getsy was a gut punch a real what were you thinking moment by management, the fans DESERVE better things need to change drastically or fans like myself with simply tune out and Allegiant stadium will become more of an away destination for other teams fans
Please get rid of Getsy. To predictable, we can’t run the ball because the defense is ready for the run. We run first and second down always we need to mix it up and give our quarterback at least a chance.
Get rid of getsey he’s terrible
AOC love for sure. Raiders need a run game and Josh Jacobs is sorely missed.
