There have been rumors the San Francisco 49ers might be trying to trade for Maxx Crosby, and even if they aren’t able to pull off a deal for the Raiders’ All-Pro pass rusher, 49ers GM John Lynch confirmed on Thursday that he is in the market for a pass rusher.
“We’ll see. I’m having a lot of good and productive conversations,” Lynch said about trading for a pass rusher on KNBR radio on Thursday.
“You’re not going to find a player that’s going to replace Nick Bosa, but can you find someone that makes the group better so we’re collectively better… There’s so many variables and you got to find a partner that makes sense. There’s plenty of discussions.”
As of now, the Raiders aren’t believed to be interested in trading Crosby but based on the way his contract extension was structured in the offseason, the door was left open for something to happen.
Trading Crosby might seem unthinkable, but it was only 10 months ago that Crosby sounded like a player who was ready to leave the Raiders. Pete Carroll was able to reenergize Crosby, but it’s fair to wonder how much longer Crosby will be willing to play for a team that rarely plays meaningful football after Thanksgiving.
If a couple of first-round picks are on the table before the trade deadline, it’s possible Tom Brady and GM John Spytek will consider hitting a hard reset on the roster and trading their best player.
Per OverTheCap, the Raiders would save more than $30 million against the salary cap in 2026 by trading Crosby before next season. It’s a long shot to happen, but if the Raiders don’t turn their season around before the November 4 trade deadline, there probably won’t be anyone untradable on the roster other than Ashton Jeanty and Brock Bowers.
x: @raidersbeat

Don’t trade him, but if they do, please not to the 49ers, their fan base is arrogant and insufferable.
This team isn’t going to compete anytime soon, so it’s best for all parties involved to get a trade done before the deadline. The roster needs an infusion of talent and draft picks are needed for that. The only problem is that the Spytek hasn’t showed the ability to recognize and acquire talent.
Yeah I’d prefer to trade him to Seattle or Detroit. But then again, the NFC West is really solid so perhaps the Niners stumble in that division & the picks are higher.
Like you said, I don’t trust Patriot West II to make the right calls. This drafted netted a slot WR & RB in the 1st 2 rounds. The ISU cornerback will be good eventually(think Nnamdi), but we could love solidified our OL…or better yet trade for Dart.
Remember when Mark said Tom Brady would be here to help us find our next quarterback? Guess he couldn’t scout Dart
I love Crosby, he’s awesome, and he’s been a fantastic Raider. But he’s being wasted with this franchise and he wants to win now. Only potential issue I could see with Niners is the sheer number of big contracts they already have on the books. Can it work financially (yes, I know contracts are restructured all the time for these sorts of things)? Bosa is hurt a lot, but good lord, imagine the two of them together. To a certain degree the franchises’ fortunes really changed when the 49ers and Raiders finished with the same record, but the Niners ended up with the Bosa, Deebo and Dre Greenlaw, and the Raiders had 3 firsts, but ended up with Ferrell, Jacobs and Abram In 2019. Of course, they also landed Crosby later, but the opportunity cost with Abram and Ferrell was a killer.
And yeah, I come from a family of 49ers fans, and they are arrogant. Jed York basically seems to have lucked into hiring the right guy (Shanahan) when he was available. But he did hire Shanahan, stuck with him when he went 6-10 and 4-12 in his first two years with the team, and now the 49ers are one of the most stable, successful organizations in the sport. At this point, outside of Andy Reid, I’m not sure there is a more respected coach in football. So credit where it’s due, and arrogant or not, I am extremely jealous of the 49ers. Even when they screw up (the Lance trade, the RBs they love to take on Day 2), they figure out a way to make things work (with Mr Irrelevant and the guy Belichick ruined, UDFA backs and then trading for CMC). As much as Paraag Marathe got clowned (justifiably) during the early Jed years when they were a dysfunctional, leak factory, he always seems to get team-friendly deals that allow them to acquire and retain talent, and move on from guys when it’s time. They’re basically the opposite of the Raiders where good players come to die, and every time they miss on a trade or draft pick, the results are catastrophic.
That’s not a good reason not to do a deal if they offer the best package for Crosby, though. One thing I will say is the 49ers have benefitted from consistency, so unless the offer is of the Godfather variety, maybe it’s worth seeing through until the end of the season before moving Crosby.Things aren’t looking good, but I haven’t 100% written off the Carroll/Spytek regime after 5 games.
I will use the same story line they used with Khilla Mack. They are not winning with Crosby, so trading him and getting maybe 2 number 1’s and a number 2. That’s provided you trust Spytek. I personally don’t.
I don’t trust that puppet. Another board I was on, everyone was saying we need to take Dart as he’s the best quarterback in the draft.
Of course, these idiots miss again & Mark said Brady was coming in to help us select our quarterback. This is how dumb Mark is, he thinks Brady has a superpower to scout quarterbacks
Lol, yeah, supposedly, he was also down on Darnold this offseason, so we went with Geno (which cost a good pick). I don’t know how many times it needs to be proven. Being a good player doesn’t make you a good coach.
I keep making the point because someone smarter than me made it. Mark doesn’t have too many contacts within the current NFL. His ability to keep his thumb on the pulse of who the young, bright minds are is basically minimal. So he defaults to either loyalists who have been around him forever, depend on him for a paycheck or whatever, and he picks famous guys he knows from TV. Since McKenzie, he’s gone with Gruden, Mayock, McDaniels and Ziegler (likely with a push from Brady), AP because players wanted it, and AP made him feel comfortable with his platitudes about Raiderness, and now Pete Carroll with another GM likely selected largely by Brady.
If we can get a couple of firsts for Maxx we got to deal. We need a franchise qb and the way it looks we will be in the top five in the draft. The team lives and dies through the qb and we haven’t been doing nothing but dying for too many years. Hate to see Maxx leave but this organization is holding him back. Hopefully we have someone in the organization with some brains who can get us a qb. I dread these aholes going after Sanders before the deadline.
