Are The Raiders Headed Toward A Difficult Draft Decision On Saquon Barkley?

Will Saquon Barkley still be on the board when the Raiders draft at 9th or 10th (depending on a coin flip with San Francisco) overall?

It seemed unthinkable a few months ago, but with this year’s running back class as deep as it is, teams may decide to take their chances on a running back later in the draft – and pass on Barkley.

The Raiders have more pressing draft needs, but given his history, it’s hard to imagine Jon Gruden resisting a running back as versatile and electrifying as Barkley.

Ideally, the Raiders can walk away from the draft with significant upgrades at linebacker and cornerback (among other positions), but if Barkley becomes available, Gruden will have a difficult decision on his hands with the first pick.

  1. If Barkley falls to us and Reggie takes him!!!! Wow just wow… we will be pillagingjust4fun.com

  2. We drafted a DB last year and we know what that got us? …. a hurt or injured Connelly. And from reports he and other draft picks are jerk in the locker room. Draft the running back if available.

  3. If they decide to bring back Smith (Amerson HAS TO get cut!), then re-sign TJ Carrie, they have enough CB’s to get started, albeit with no depth – Conley, Smith, Carrie. They can snag a free agent or draft a CB for depth.
What about DT? We have garbage at DT right now. Vanderdoes is not the answer. He was ineffective as a rookie and now he’s shredded his knee yet again. Mario Edwards Jr is decent, but is still very mediocre…gets little pass rush. Autry is decent. Ellis will likely get cut ’cause he sucks.
Linabacker – Are they going to allow Bowman to man the MLB position?

So, would we pass on an impact MLB, CB and DT in round 1 just to get a RB who MIGHT be really good in the NFL? It seems incredibly foolish to me…….even if Barkley is as good as Zeke was the previous year, ignoring the huge holes on defense would be a disaster.

  5. Guice is looking noice! And will be there in the 2nd round most likely. I’d rather take an OL in the first and get rid of Donald Penn’s hold out attitude. Rumor has it he doesn’t back DC. True or not, he is coming off season ending surgery, he’s old. ND, OU and Texas have OLs worth day one picks. Put Sharpe at RT, draft one of those big boys and we have the stoutest line in the NFL.

P.S. Shout out for Dan78. That website and podcast Pillagingjust4fun.com is dope! They had Lincoln Kennedy on last week. Noiiice!!! Good looking out bro.

  6. Anyone doubting Barkley’s value, go back and watch the Rose Bowl against USC. He’s not just the best rb in college, he’s the best rb period!

  7. My thoughts on drafting a RB in round 1 is ludicrous. Raiders need to solidify their DEFENSE to be able to compete in the NFL. The running game while it’s a problem it won’t keep you in the game if the defense is like last year. Round 2 or 3 is a better gamble on RB
