Bill Belichick Shares the Price He Would Pay for Davante Adams

The Raiders will [eventually] trade Davante Adams, but it sounds like compensation could be an issue.

The Raiders are looking to get a second-round pick for Adams, and to this point, it sounds like that’s a cost no one has been willing to pay.

Legendary head coach Bill Belichick was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday, and he talked about the cost he thought would be fair for the Raiders disgruntled wide receiver.

“I think the Raiders are asking for a second-round pick,” Belichick told McAfee. “I don’t know if that’s true or not, but that’s what has been reported.”

“That’s a very high price to pay for a player [with his contract],” Belichick continued. “I’m not sure… what his contract situation would be next year, whether you could afford his contract next year, or whether the new team would want to re-do it. I think for really a one-year contract, I think that’s really more of like a fourth or a fifth-round pick.”

If the Jets and Saints, who many believe are the frontrunners to trade for Adams, do not want to pay more than a fourth-round pick for Adams, the Raiders should consider holding on to him.

There’s no difference from the Raiders standpoint whether Adams is at home or in New York City. If the Jets don’t want to pay a premium for Adams, the Raiders have another month to sit on him and put pressure on Aaron Rodgers and Jets HC Robert Selah.

There’s a reason the Jets and Saints want Adams and they both need him much sooner than later. Neither team is a shoo-in for the playoffs and both organizations are in win-now mode.

If the Raiders can get a fourth-round pick for Adams now, there’s a good chance that price isn’t going to drop by the November 5 trade deadline. If the Jets or Saints back out, someone else will be desperate enough in November to offer a mid-round pick for Adams. That’s a small price to pay for one of the league’s best wide receivers.

Leverage changes every week in the NFL and it would be interesting to see how the Adams situation would play out if the Raiders stood their ground on their asking price. There are risks involved to that approach, but how much worse can it get than giving away Adams for a fifth-round pick?

  1. Heck, if a team really wants devante Adams they will give up a first round pick regardless of what everybody’s saying! Stick to your guns Raiders

  2. Adams is the least of there problems. Why has no one address the elephant in the room? Their problem is they don’t have a starting QB. Both QB’s are nothing more than back yups period, end of discussion.
