It’s been a complicated week for the Raiders and Davante Adams, but as of now, he’s on the roster and there’s still a slim chance he might not be traded.
On Wednesday, head coach Antonio Pierce said he has talked to Adams, and it sounds like the two are on better terms than they were a week ago – for whatever that’s worth.
Nevertheless, Adams requested a trade last week and there haven’t been any reports indicating he has changed his mind.
Assuming Adams ultimately ends up on another team, Charles Woodson’s words on Sunday will still ring true.
“I’m just trying to figure out why we can’t have nice things for the Raiders,’ Woodson said on Sunday’s FOX Sports pregame show. “It’s always something.”
“I just think about over the years, I think about a guy like Khalil Mack. One of the premier pass rushers in the league, fourth-overall pick, all of sudden we ship him out the door. Last year there’s an opportunity to, I don’t know how real it was, but C.J. Stroud was sitting there at [pick] 2, maybe we’d be aggressive and move up. We don’t do it.”
“And now, what we have is a premier receiver in the NFL in Davante Adams,” Woodson continued. “We just come off a win where Maxx Crosby’s not in, Davante’s not in, and guess what we’re talking about? One of our guys wants to leave the team. It just always seems like we’re in sports news for all the wrong reasons… so as a former player, fan of the Raiders, I’m sick of it.”
For now, the trade market seems to have cooled around Adams and some of that might be because he is skeptical about signing off on a trade to the Jets or the Saints at the moment.
Both organizations have major questions around their respective teams after week 5 and Adams might have determined that he could use a little extra time to decide where he wants to go.
What that means for Raider fans is they will have to watch the trade rumors around Adams drag out for another week… or at least until his hamstring injury, that may or may not be real, finally allows him to play again.

Charles thinks he’s sick of it; us Raider fans have been sick of it for years. It seems like it all started with “The tuck rule”. Ever since Brady fumbled that ball and the refs made the worst call in NFL history, the Raiders have been cursed. That was our year. We would have won it all that year. After that, it’s been one thing after another. Our beloved John Gruden goes to Tampa Bay, and Bill Callahan doesn’t have the sense to change the plays before Super Bowl thirty-eight. We were a laughing stock. I remember seeing film of their players coming off the field in San diego laughing at us….”It’s just how you said coach, when they do this, they’re gonna run that.” Hahaha. Then it was the Jamarcus Russel mess with his “Drank” Codeine Cough Syrup and Kool Aid. Then, Lane Kiffin wins two games all season. Then we make Tom Cable our coach. He doubles Kiffin’s two wins and we win four games, but then he doubles that and we win eight games….Hey, we’re making improvements!….Nope, He’s fired! Long story short, three playoff games in twenty-two years, of which we lost every one. But, us loyal Raider Fans don’t ever give up on our team. Born twenty-five minutes from Oakland, a fan since diapers, thousands of dollars spent going to games, and what do we get in return? They take our team away from us, hardly ever put them on TV anymore, and can’t seem to get their sh_t together….ever! Message to Mark Davis, let someone else run the team. Raider For Life, Tim.
OMG you nailed it but you brought up all the memories I have tried to forget. Good gosh, I had tried to forget DeMarcus Russell and the fact that we didn’t change those plays in the Super Bowl drove me insane. I grew up in Alameda and I’m old enough that I watched them build the Colosseum and watch the Raiders come to Oakland. Everything you say is true and your final analysis is spot on. Somebody put Mark Davis in the corner in a chair and tape his mouth shut. His input is just not working. Let’s hope Davante Adams stays, he’s an incredible talent.
