Colin Cowherd is not an NFL insider, but he has made a profitable career of commenting on the NFL, and many times the Raiders.
The FOX Sports host is believed to make around $6 million per year and is the founder of the growing sports media company The Volume.
But for all of his success, there aren’t many self-respecting talking heads in the industry making more ridiculous statements than Cowherd.
Over the weekend, Cowherd discussed the Dolphins ahead of their game against the Rams and went way over his head in the kiddie pool once again.
Cowherd completely threw away a segment of his show trying to figure out the status of defensive tackle Christian Wilkins.
Wilkins was on injured reserve in week 9 because of a significant foot injury, but more importantly, he hasn’t been with the Dolphins for nearly nine months. Wilkins signed a four-year, $110 million deal with the Raiders in March.
“Is Christian Wilkins playing? The [defensive] tackle for the Dolphins?” Cowherd asked co-host Jason McIntyre, who told him the inactive list had not yet been released.
The good news for Cowherd is that he has been in worse situations than this.
Last year, Cowherd’s program made a list of quarterbacks who he perceived to be unable to win a Super Bowl and included the late Dwayne Haskins.
Cowherd corrected his graphics team for calling it his list of quarterbacks who “can” win a Super Bowl.
Both errors were unintentional, but how do outlandish mistakes like these happen at the highest level of sports media… and to the same person, no less?

$6 million per year salary.
Dumb AF.
Yep that sounds about right.
PFF calls them the “shouty shows”,” and they’re bad for us as consumers of sports. Loud abrasive personalities, who treat their stance on some trivial Week 12 matchup like it’s as important to the core of their being as their religious views. Never forget ESPN turning to Stephen A. Smith for his thoughts on whether the NCAA did the right thing cancelling the tournament due to Covid… Like SAS suddenly became a public health expert in addition to sports! In this example, Colin is trying to sound like he is some type of sharp by mentioning Christian Wilkins, but it could have been Jevon Holland or any other non-star player, because the point isn’t real analysis. It’s just performative, designed to show that Colin really knows his football. Hilarious.
Also, he once implied Dominicans are stupid, and he had some really awful commentary on John Wall back in the day. So screw this guy.
The way those things happen is that he’s an idiot who doesn’t do his homework.
