The Raiders fired Chip Kelly in the hours following Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Browns, and it was announced on Monday that Greg Olson will enter his third stint as the team’s offensive coordinator.
Based on production, it wasn’t a big surprise that Kelly was fired, but many believed it wouldn’t happen until the end of the season.
The Raiders will now move forward without the league’s highest-paid offensive coordinator and the team’s leader of the locker room commented on Kelly’s firing on Monday.
Maxx Crosby said he has respect for Kelly, but the change needed to happen.
“Chip is a guy that I’ve had a lot of respect for from afar and what he has done over his career. Everyone knows that growing up I was a big Buckeye fan, my dad is a huge Ohio State fan, and so them winning the [NCAA national championship] last year, I was super excited about him coming here,” Crosby said Monday on Sirius XM Radio’s Let’s Go! podcast.
“When Chip was here, he was always good to me, and we had a cool relationship. Unfortunately, this is a production-based business and if the offense is struggling, I feel like it’s just comes down to… production at the end of the day. The offense has been struggling and felt like, you know, we needed to make a change. So that’s above my pay grade. But at the end of the day, I wish the best for Chip, and I know he’ll be back doing his thing soon.”
Crosby will be one to watch in the offseason, as teams will once again be lining up to see if the Raiders are interested in trading him.
11 months ago, the Raiders had to convince Crosby of the direction they were going as an organization. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if they have to make that sales pitch again in a month or two.

Need to get out of Vegas and come back to California… nothing but distractions in that city.. it’s a playground for gambling not a football town… Mr Davis can rent that stadium out for special events so it will still pay for itself and make money… come back home to Oakland but fix the bathrooms first…it’s an old stadium but it’s home… if your going to spend money don’t waist it on players that won’t work… no more Seahawks or patriot teams its not Raiders Football… I’m 67 long time raiders fan still hoping Mr Davis will see the difference between home field in Oakland that’s full of Raider Fans and vegas that the seats are filled the opposing team fans… stop the greed and talk to old Raider players and coaches … you will see improvements… and a team that will get its pride and poise back…
