Maxx Crosby’s Agent Calls Ravens’ Claim “Fake News”

Since backing out on their trade agreement with the Raiders for Maxx Crosby, the Ravens haven’t been the beneficiary of many flattering headlines. But it’s not for a lack of trying.

On Wednesday, Ravens GM Eric DeCosta said it was “devastating” to tell Crosby the deal was off and his media mouthpieces have run with a few unlikely narratives of their own in the last 24 hours.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini said the Ravens were so enthusiastic about trading for Crosby that they were prepared to sign him to a contract near the top of the market.

Russini’s report didn’t convince many, but it especially didn’t convince Crosby’s agent, who called the report “fake news.”

In the four days Crosby was supposed to be a Raven, every indication was that the anticipated trade was not going to come with an immediate pay raise.

Crosby’s current contract is a team-friendly deal that is easy to trade now and would be easy to trade two years from now.

If the Ravens were planning on doing something different with Crosby’s contract once he was in Baltimore, it sounds like the plan never found its way to Crosby’s representatives… and there’s a good chance that means it probably wasn’t true.
