Dark Horse Coaching Candidate Will Get the Raiders Job “If He Gets A One-On-One with Mark Davis”

For the second time in 48 months, the Raiders have an interim head coach with about a two-month window to win over Mark Davis for the job.

Two years ago, it was Rich Bisaccia. This year, it’s Antonio Pierce.

Given the fact that Davis realizes it was a mistake to move on from Bisaccia, Pierce should be considered the favorite to get the job if the team continues to rally around him.

But if Davis decides not to go with Pierce, he will have plenty of options. Names like Jim Harbaugh and Jon Gruden will be connected to the Raiders in the months ahead, and a dark horse candidate for the job might be Carolina defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.

According to Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter, Evero is considered one of the best young coaches in the industry…

“I had one NFL General Manager say to me flat out ‘If he gets a one-on-one with Mark Davis, he will be your next coach,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. “This guy called him one of the most brilliant football minds he has ever talked football with. He told me if he had an opening today, E.J. would be at the top of his list…”

“E.J. will walk into that room with binders of information, [and say] ‘this is going to be my offensive coordinator and here’s what we’re going to do.’ That’s why they said getting the interview with Mark [Davis] is going to be the key. If he gets the interview, one in particular said ‘I have no doubt he’ll get the job.'”

Those are strong words for sure and something (or someone) to keep an eye on as Davis is expected to enter his latest coaching search with an open mind.

At least that’s what he said he’s going to do.

And for what it’s worth, if the Panthers don’t start scoring more points and winning more games, Evero might find himself with an interim head-coaching gig of his own.

  1. Give Pierce a chance if team responds. It’s early and too much hoopla over 1 win. The intensity and fire we saw last Sunday was awesome but it also tells me how bad things were under mcclown. When he was hired I stopped being a raider fan. I have been a fan since 1969. I called them the Las Vegas patriots!
My dad and I were season ticket holder’s when they came back to Oaktown after la.
Mark, listen to your fans, most loyal and dedicated in the nfl. If you listen to Brady and take his input, you might as well hire mcclown again!! Listen to a true raider who gave his blood, sweat and tears for da radas and your father, Al!!

  2. I wish you guys in the media will allow the Raider organization to review the success or lack thereof of the interim Head Coach before you begin throwing candidates names and the
probability of their being named Head Coach.

  3. I was pushing for Evero when he ran Denver’s D. Under the radar talent that would be a good hire at DC too.

  4. Well as long as he takes it seriously, finally, I believe the Raiders may finally get someone worthy of the title. Someone with a COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE would be nice!

  5. I was a fan of the team’s effort during the Rich Bisaccia tenure; I also like Antonio Pierce’s revitalazion of the team ( I know it’s only one game, but he deserves an opportunity also)! Don’t screw this up!💯

  6. So… E.J. will walk in with binders full of his “system” and sell the system to MD… Hmmmm… He might be a great coach, but haven’t we been down that road? Hondo Carpenter, is that what you’re hearing? Maybe a player-centered approach, utilizing the talent in the best way possible… with an open mind about what works… maybe we try that?

  7. I think the teams talent is not used effectively and they need a coach who will make it a game again someone who will get a little excited during a game and will pass that on to the players and get them motivated to go out and crush opponents the best coaches are the ones screaming on the sidelines Vermeil, Madden, men who show emotion are contagious and drive the players I haven’t seen any as of late find one and the players will follow.

  8. Some of us remember the Mike Shanahan debacle. He came in and tried to install Dan Reeves Denver disciplinarian style and failed miserably. It didn’t match the Raider’s spirit and the players didn’t take to it. Same with McDaniels. Both of them were obviously capable coaches. Shanahan had a stellar career after. Their style just didn’t Jibe with the team. There have been a number of coaches since. John Gruden’s staff perhaps was the best match. Certainly the fan favorite. Which makes a difference. The vagabond teams who wanted to win prevailed. The superstar teams mostly didn’t. Al Davis got stars in his eyes. Ultimately that resulted in Jamarcus Russell. Hopefully his son will take a lesson from his own history. Choose your people wisely. Field a team that wants to win. Not a team that thinks they are winners before the first snap.

  9. If not Antonio, then I wood go with gruden as coach or gm, feed the rest to the sharks, it wood also put a thorn in Roger’s *** go raiders

    1. That is the **** I like to hear right there. I’m a writer at heart and I can tell you are too brother and I think bringing green back would be a awesome idea just think he needs to be down on the field with the players is my opinion but just making Gruden part of the team again I think it’s a great start though Mark Davis do it your way like your dad piss everybody off and then fucking kick *** just win baby I want to get that attitude back it’s been hard being a Raider the last 20 fucking years yeah I said that right 20 fucking years I want to get **** back to where we belong.

  10. Come on now, guys… let’s not jump the gun. I know that the energy is much better and at times, that in itself could be enough to start turning things around. But please let’s look at one thing first… The team we beat last week was dead last in scoring at around 12 points a game, and 31st in yards per game both on the ground AND through the air; and if that wasn’t enough, Daniel Jones went down in the first quarter so if Tommy DeVito had beaten us the talk about Antonio Pierce would have been very different. My point in all of this is, let’s see what happens against the Jets. Although we’re not talking about an elite team, they are definitely the better New York squad right now. Don’t get me wrong, I wish AP much success… let’s just wait before we jump on his bandwagon. Go Nation!!

  11. Wait. til miami and K.C. Then we will see, Best of luck A.P. I am Rooting for you. signed Raider fan since 1968. Daryl Lamonica and co. Super Bowl 2 vs. Packers Those were the days 60 SILVER AND BLACK !

  12. Obviously as a lifetime Raider fan I was ecstatic when MD FINALLY fired Mc d-bag. The Raiders Obviously wouldn’t have been in that situation if they had done the right thing & stuck with Biasucci. Regardless of his interim record, they should stick with Pierce. Unless Gruden is somehow available. I figure they need 10 wins for a wild card. Regardless, I can root for my boys again. Go Raiders!!!

  13. Ugh! Binders…not thrilled with that. Not the time to bury your head in the books. You cannot know your team that way. You need to watch them, find their talents and see what value they have for the team. What happened to watching films? Yeah binders have plays but like I said you need to really know your players before using them. Watch the films…and Gruden? Haven’t we been down that road more than once. Watch the films EJ then get that meeting with Mark. And Mr. Davis…stop being a suit, be a Raider!

  14. Why the heck are some comments suggesting Gruden should be in the conversation. He was a total poser. And a loser. He had control over the team with a long losing record, and more 1st round draft fails than any other coach. He talked like a fake John madden in press conferences,, but that does not make him john madden capable.

  15. Gruden are you people serious ?
Look I was just as excited and happy as anyone else when MD hired him for our coach .
But he brought nothing to the table except for trading away our best players and drafting crap for years he literally put the team back for years to stubborn to listen to other people give him input or advice .
How can anyone honestly claim they are Raider fans and say they want Gruden back again .
That’s insanity in my book please give AP a look after 4 games then let’s see where he stands.
This organization and us fans need to wake up and stop going in circles time to catch up to the rest of the league in hiring and drafting the right people.

    1. I agree. I wasnt happy that Del Rio was fired, but he had lost the locker room at that point. Very hard to come back from. I very much liked Gruden in the late 1990s and early 2000s,but when he came back to Oakland, he was the same coach as he was his first time around. Very outdated coaching. Gotta keep the game fresh. It was a running league back then, now it’s pass happy with a running QB. I think AP is our man for the job! He’s been successful at every level so far! And I think he will be successful and our Head Coach for a long time if he keeps the momentum up! Wouldn’t it be great if The Raiders went on a Cinderella playoff run the rest of the season and went to the Super Bowl in Vegas next year!!! Vegas has Star Players and some really great role players like Spillane (best FA pickup this past off-season). I might be getting ahead of myself, but now that McDumbass is gone, they’re a different team, so I think it’s okay for us to dream a bit! Lol!

  16. That is what I like to hear right there.
