Davante Adams’ September “Clickbait” Comments Look Even More Ridiculous Today

Two weeks ago, former Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams posted a cryptic image of Edgar Allen Poe on his Instagram page, and followed up with a quote from the famous poet.

“Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see,” the quote said, presumably in reference to all the rumors swirling around Adams’ reported trade request.

A more accurate explanation, though, might have been that Adams was talking about his own statements because not a lot of what he said in recent weeks turned out to be true.

We know now that Adams wasn’t happy in Las Vegas. We also learned that rumors around Davante could be true even when they don’t come from his mouth.

We learned that the “BS” and “clickbait” stories actually had some truth to them, and eventually we’re going to find out a lot more about what really went wrong between Adams and the Raiders.

Until then, this quote from Adams just before the start of the season can be filed away as words from Davante we never should have bought into.

”Whatever you see, if it’s not from the horse’s mouth, it’s probably bullsh—,” Adams said on September 4. “In terms of me being upset or not being happy in this organization is just a bunch of BS that’s just meant to throw everybody off and get clickbait.”

“Everybody want to see what Davante have to say… if I was pissed off, I would ‘t be here… whatever you hear from my mouth is what you get,” Adams continued. “I don’t think that y’all stand in front of me getting the vibe that I want to leave this place, and if you do you’re just feeding into the bullsh— that they feed y’all out there. That’s not reality.”

The reality is we never heard from the horse’s mouth anything about being unhappy in Las Vegas. He went on the Up and Adams Show the day after requesting a trade and made no mention of the conversation he had with head coach Antonio Pierce the day before.

Instead, he acted surprised by the fact that his head coach would ‘like’ a social media post about him being traded.

The horse’s mouth had a full segment with host Kay Adams to clarify what he was orchestrating behind the scenes, but chose to pretend he had no idea what was going on.

By all means, the Raiders don’t look like a good football team, and Adams isn’t obligated to stay in a situation where he isn’t happy.

That’s all fine and well.

Davante isn’t the first player to want to leave the Raiders and he won’t be the last.

But if we’re able to see the insincerity in his words over the last few months, do you suppose his teammates might have picked up on it long before the last few weeks?
