Tafur: Davante Adams “Disingenuous” Following Trade Request

We’re only two weeks into October and Raider fans are already bracing for another forgettable season.

There was optimism around the Raiders at the start of the season, but after a 2-2 start and the subsequent Davante Adams trade request, there haven’t been many positive headlines around the team.

The Adams trade was a bizarre situation that played out longer than it should have, and the fan base seems to be split on who deserves blame for the latest high-profile player to force his way out of the organization.

The details around Adams’ time with the Raiders will be a talking point all season, but The Athletic‘s Vic Tafur offered a perspective this week that deserves attention. Tafur said he believes Raider fans are justified in feeling like Adams quit on the team.

“When you quit on your team on a Victory Monday, I think that’s a really rare and weird thing,” Tafur said on the Just Win podcast. “The team is 2-2 [and] I think that’s an odd time to go into Pierce’s office and say ‘I can’t be here.’”

“Then my bigger problem really is the next day, he goes on the Up and Adams Show and kind of points the finger at Antonio Pierce saying with the Instagram post and [saying] we haven’t talked and I don’t know what that’s about when clearly he knew he asked for a trade the day before,” Tafur continued. “To me, it was pretty disingenuous of him. I just think some fans say he quit on the team and I can’t disagree with that.”

“Whatever his reasons were, like he was frustrated and that’s not what he signed up for and he hates the quarterbacks, but he did quit on the team. I think that’s factually accurate.”

Hello and Goodbye! | Davante Adams Traded | Tom Brady An Owner | Raiders at Rams

It’s finally happened…the Las Vegas Raiders have traded Davante Adams AND Tom Brady has officially become minority owner of the Raiders! Vic, Ted and Tashan breakdown the trade that sent Davante to the Jets, what Brady being an owner means to the team and they guys preview the upcoming week 7 Raiders at Rams game!

Looking back to the first week of September, Adams was clearly being disingenuous with the team and the fans long before his request for a trade.

”Whatever you see, if it’s not from the horse’s mouth, it’s probably bullsh—,” Adams said on September 4. “In terms of me being upset or not being happy in this organization is just a bunch of BS that’s just meant to throw everybody off and get clickbait.”

“Everybody want to see what Davante have to say… if I was pissed off, I would ‘t be here… whatever you hear from my mouth is what you get,” Adams continued. “I don’t think that y’all stand in front of me getting the vibe that I want to leave this place, and if you do you’re just feeding into the bullsh— that they feed y’all out there. That’s not reality.”

Ultimately, the “clickbait” during the final weeks of Adams’ tenure with the Raiders actually turned out to be the words coming from the player himself.

  1. Imo this is more on the poor leadership and decision making of the RaaDuhs than Devante being a quitter. If the RaaDuhs had a good consistent qb winning games , Devante would still be on the team. He came to the RaaDuhs because of DC. McDaniels basically forced DC out of town because we wanted Brady. Then Rodgers wanted to come to Vegas and play with Devante, but McDaniels wanted washed Jimmy G instead. Then the RaaDuhs win a meaningless end of the season game last year for AP. Blow draft position, don’t get a qb , and sign a career back up to be their starter. You could also possibly say don’t get Harbaugh either by doing that. Devante had patience with the team , but the guy wants to win, and he realizes you need a good consistent qb play to do that. Clearly he is a better judge of qb talent than the RaaDuhs leadership has been. He was trying to be team player, put on a good face in public , but after awhile reality sets in . I hope he lights it up in NY with Rodgers. It doesn’t matter to the RaaDuhs if he does. In fact it helps them a little bit( if they can draft). This season is toast for the RaaDuhs, it’s best that they just lose baby now…. again if they can actually draft a consistently good qb. Not holding my breath, and sorry for being half empty… but it’s just the reality of being a RaaDuh fan. Oh yeah and NO too Old Belicheck ! Which likely means too Lame McDaniels again …neither have been good without Brady on the field and won’t be good with him being their employer. How in the world did we end up here Raider Nation …. oh wait I know and so do you !

  2. Over and out, good riddance. You never were a raider.
And he should be shunned as if he never were.

  3. Adams wasn’t a team player with Packers either quitting cause he thought Rodgers might be leaving..he refused to block, and refused to play a part of a preseason game that Maxx Crosby played a quarter in..
The Diva twins,he and Rodgers belong together.
