Luke Getsy might not have been the Raiders first choice to be their next offensive coordinator (and maybe not even their second choice), but there’s a good chance that he was the first choice of their best player on offense.
Getsy was Davante Adams’ wide receivers coach in Green Bay, and it sounds like Adams views the Raiders’ new offensive scheme as a major upgrade to the Josh McDaniels offense of a year ago.
“We got a really good system on offense now and it’s something that I’m very familiar with,” Adams said on The Rush with Maxx Crobsy. “It’s literally the same verbiage, everything, the same playbook because you know [Luke] Getsy was my wide receiver coach and he took what we did in Green Bay to the Bears and they didn’t have the best cast to make it look like it work, but it’s a hell of a system.”
Getsy wasn’t necessarily in high demand as an offensive coordinator after a two-year stint with the Bears, but based on comments from Adams and the minimal trade compensation the Bears received for Justin Fields, there were factors outside of Getsy’s control in Chicago that probably held back the Bears’ offense.
The question for the Raiders now is simple…
Will the quarterback play in Las Vegas be a lot better than what Getsy was working with in Chicago?
At the very least, Getsy will have more playmakers around his quarterback in Las Vegas, but there are still a lot of questions around the Raiders’ quarterback situation that aren’t going to be answered until the season begins.
Beat writers in Las Vegas seem to be split on who will be the Raiders’ quarterback in September, but it seems obvious from the outside that the team has a legitimate quarterback competition between Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew that might not be sorted out until the close of preseason.

With a strong Defense, like 49er’s an I think O’Connell is better than Purdy. Able to move and adjust to broken plays. He was in a unscripted offense once he became starter with a rookie OC. Plays made up week to week. He will be starter. $25,000,000
Is ok for a backup Veteran. We have a 3rd QB in Anthony Brown Jr. On the roster as well.
