Watching Derek Carr against the Chiefs on Sunday night, it felt like it may have been one of the best games of his career. Maybe even his best.
But according to Pro Football Focus, Carr wasn’t just better than he has ever been. He was better than all but one quarterback has been over the last four years.
“Until his game-ending interception, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr played one of the cleanest games you’ll see from a quarterback,” PFF’s Steve Palazzolo wrote this week. “His 96.0 passing grade for the game is the second-best in the NFL since 2016 among quarterbacks with at least 30 dropbacks. Carr finished 23-for-31 for 275 yards, three touchdowns and the interception. But of his eight incompletions, four were drops and two were throwaways.”
There is a little irony to Palazzolo writing the story on Carr. He is the analyst that a few weeks ago said Carr’s 2020 is the product of a lot of luck.
For what it’s worth, it was Russell Wilson in week 5 of the 2019 season against the Rams that recorded a better passing grade than Carr. Wilson’s stat line that Thursday night was 17-23, 262 passing yards, and 4 touchdowns.

Another band wagon jumper 🙄 Sorry were all full. But if you can find a place to hang on the back you might find some room😂😂
After learning the ins/outs of Gruden’s offense it’s obvious Derrick’s an elite quarterback – especially when he has an excellent supporting staff. His play is the reason the Raiders competed w/the Chiefs – in both games. Now – CAN Guenther & play D!!!
