Former Team Doctor Shares Concern After Maxx Crosby Releases Post-Surgery Photo

Maxx Crosby posted a photo on Wednesday confirming he had successful surgery on his knee, and every indication to this point is that he is expected to make a full recovery.

It was reported last month that Crosby needed a trimmed meniscus, and the All-Pro edge rusher was said to have sought at least two second opinions.

The surgery may have gone well, but according to former NFL team doctor David Chao, the post-operation photo Crosby posted on social media suggests he had a more extensive procedure performed than a simple meniscus trim.

“I don’t doubt Maxx Crosby. I love his desire to play. But here’s my worry. It seems to me it was more than a meniscus trim or knee cleanup,” Chao posted on X.

“In his recovery bed he has a knee brace on. Not just a wrap. Knee braces are not typically used after simple arthroscopic clean up surgery.” Chao continued. “Why the knee brace? We don’t know for sure, but it certainly opens up the question that it could have been more than a meniscectomy cleanup. Is it a meniscus repair with suturing, which takes longer recovery? All sorts of theories can be in place.”

“Let’s wish the best for Maxx Crosby. He does have a long offseason to recover and maybe this backs up why the Raiders wanted to have this surgery sooner and shut him down for the end of the season.”

There have not been any reports suggesting Crosby is dealing with a larger problem, but after all the secrecy around Christian Wilkins’ foot injury a year ago, it’s fair to wonder.

Crosby hasn’t said a lot since the season’s end, but he did make a statement on Pete Carroll shortly after the veteran head coach was fired.

“I haven’t had time to really process it, to be honest,” Crosby said on the Let’s Go! podcast on Monday.

“I just found out. I’m here in the building and I literally see it pop up on the TV. So, it was kind of gloomy, I would say. It’s something that I’ve been a part of before, but just to speak on Pete, this season didn’t go the way we expected it at all. From the players to the coaches, I don’t think anybody expected we would be in this position and getting the number one pick.”

“But I will say, you know, the one thing I did admire about Pete is he was consistent as they come. He has won for such a long time. He is a Super Bowl champion. He won a national championship at USC. He has been an incredible coach, and he has had an incredible journey. So unfortunately, this thing didn’t work out the way we expected it, but he has done an incredible job and had an incredible career, and he was always awesome to me.”

“Still gonna have that relationship regardless. Had a lot of coaches in my time to say the least, but all of those coaches, you take something from them, you learn something from them. And just we’re back to the process again and trying to figure out whatever that’s going to be. I wish him the best. Like I said, he was always incredible to me and treated me amazing. Big shout out to Coach Pete and we’ll see what happens next.”

  1. What happened with the Stefanski interview? Did it go well? Were the Raiders impressed? Did he make an impression? Are they still interested?
