Maxx Crosby Makes First Public Statements on Raiders Decision to Fire Pete Carroll

The Raiders fired head coach Pete Carroll on Monday, and it didn’t take long for Maxx Crosby to share his reaction to the news on the Let’s Go! podcast.

“I haven’t had time to really process it, to be honest,” Crosby said to Jim Gray about Carroll’s firing.

“I just found out. I’m here in the building and I literally see it pop up on the TV. So, it was kind of gloomy, I would say. It’s something that I’ve been a part of before, but just to speak on Pete, this season didn’t go the way we expected it at all. From the players to the coaches, I don’t think anybody expected we would be in this position and getting the number one pick.”

“But I will say, you know, the one thing I did admire about Pete is he was consistent as they come. He has won for such a long time. He is a Super Bowl champion. He won a national championship at USC. He has been an incredible coach, and he has had an incredible journey. So unfortunately, this thing didn’t work out the way we expected it, but he has done an incredible job and had an incredible career, and he was always awesome to me.”

“Still gonna have that relationship regardless. Had a lot of coaches in my time to say the least, but all of those coaches, you take something from them, you learn something from them. And just we’re back to the process again and trying to figure out whatever that’s going to be. I wish him the best. Like I said, he was always incredible to me and treated me amazing. Big shout out to Coach Pete and we’ll see what happens next.”

Crosby’s didn’t offer a major statement on Carroll’s release, but it is rumored that he is one of the players who wanted Carroll to return.

It’s still unclear whether Crosby, himself, will return in 2026, but it’s interesting that the first comments he made on the Carroll situation came on Jim Gray’s podcast.

Not long ago, former Raiders CEO Amy Trask said one of the reasons she believes Crosby will return to the Raiders in 2026 is on account of his business ties with members of the team’s ownership group.

One of the names Trask specifically mentioned was Gray.

Trask didn’t elaborate, but added that she views Gray as a divisive force within the organization.

“There are, of course, on field problems, but there are also a lot of problems off the field behind the scenes,” Trask said on CBS Sports HQ in November.

“Many people assume when I say ‘behind the scenes’ that I’m referring to Tom Brady, but I’m not. The individual who orchestrated Tom’s purchase in the Raiders of the limited partnership interest in the Raiders, Jim Gray, has been working to orchestrate the purchase of an interest in the Raiders since Al [Davis] was alive and we were in the process of selling a minority interest in the team,” Trask continued.

“Well, he finally orchestrated the purchase and now he is involved in every aspect, or almost every aspect, of the organization. This is having an impact on the organization, not only off the field, but on the field. Pete Carroll is a very good head coach, but the problems we’re seeing on the field are related to the problems that are rampant throughout the organization. They’ve got to fix the off-field behind the scenes issues in order to give Pete a chance to be his best.”

Trask hasn’t offered any additional context to her comments from November, but it will be interesting to see if she makes any statements on the situation in the wake of Carroll’s release.

  1. I think allot of Coach Petes down fall was his Son and the O line.with that it is also Coaches fault for not changing that scenerio. I also believe there are to many leaders behind the scenes. I do not think that Tom Brady should be making
the call on players or coaches and work as a broadcaster. I just read an article that Brady is looking to bring NE Pats coache’s to LV and the NE style football. I am really starting to think Brady wanted to buy into NE and was denied, so he is trying to poach and get even with NE! I do know the Raiders are not a replica of the NE Pats and should not be! I also feel that since Brady has been part of the Raiders they have not progressed, only gone the wrong way, and it is getting old. It was quite obvious during the season that no QB would be able to be successful with the O line that was there, and the way they were coached. Maybe Coach Pete couldnt see it because of the relationship, but everyone else could and the powers to be did nothing!

    1. They never told you at the start of the season they were tanking nice move on my man they will use you to their advantage and trade you you deserve better go get your ring on another team Brady is a cancer as yous to the raiderskick hiss *** to the curb now and mark and Jimmy grey

  2. How many more coaches do we have to fire, before the organization can fix the problems? Former coaches and players have gone on to other teams and had success. I’ve been a raider fan since the late 70’s. Never imagined it would be this bad.🤔😞 Thanks raidergatorced…….

      1. Maybe Brady wants Raider Nation to be “Patriot Nation” it appears he is constantly pushing for the patriot way to the Raiders, and we all know how that turned out! I am on the East coast and have been a Raider fan since the early 70’s
and i will admit this past 10 years or so have been so disappointing, especially this season has pushed me to love the Raider mystic but starting to lean for and give my support to another team. I do not see the Raiders getting much better in the near future. As always looking forward to the draft and seeing new hope!

  3. Trask ain’t lying. About any of it.
If this shite doesn’t change, well y’all know.
I was gonna say Jim Harbaugh just became available. But I doubt anyone with his pedigree would even interview here.
