Fowler Offers Latest on Jakobi Meyers Trade Rumors, Says Raiders Won’t Do Day 3 Pick

Jakobi Meyers is a player everyone is watching as the November 4 trade deadline approaches, but will the Raiders be willing to part with their no. 1 wide receiver at the mid-way point of the season?

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there is a “decent” chance a trade involving Meyers is going to happen, and it sounds like the Pittsburgh Steelers might be bidding against themselves a little at this point.

“Teams I’ve talked to believe that Meyers has a decent chance to be dealt — possibly the best chance among available wide receivers,” Fowler reported on Wednesday.

“Las Vegas has received interest in the seven-year veteran, and my sense is the Raiders want a strong pick for Meyers. A swap of Day 3 picks won’t do at this stage,” Fowler continued. “Several teams are believed to be in the receiver market, most notably the Steelers and possibly the Broncos and Bills.”

“Meyers clearly wants out, and the Raiders are in a transitional phase. They just signed veteran Tyler Lockett, which could ease the loss of dealing Meyers. Pittsburgh is keeping tabs on this one but is prepared to be patient, too. If I had to predict a destination right now, I’d say the Steelers. Other teams seem to be looking for more of a vertical threat than a possession receiver. Meyers has 29 catches for 329 yards this season.”

Assuming they trade him, it will be interesting to see what the Raiders get for Meyers because a year ago, Davante Adams got them a third-round pick.

The situation around Meyers is a little different than Adams, and he’s not the caliber of player that Adams was and continues to be with the Rams.

For his part, Meyers has said and done everything the right way since requesting a trade, and it sounds like there’s a good chance he’ll soon link up with the same quarterback Adams was traded to play with a year ago.

  1. Yes, nobody wants him bad enough. So they’ll have to get into a bidding war when the next season begins.
Fuch em all. Or rather c’est la vie.
