Lincoln Kennedy Not Impressed By Raiders’ Handling of Jakobi Meyers

The Raiders appear to be looking for a third-round pick for Jakobi Meyers ahead of the November 4 trade deadline, but former Raider great Lincoln Kennedy isn’t happy the situation between Meyers and team has reached this point in the first place.

“The situation with Jakobi is mishandled in many ways, because if they could have found a way to make it work, here is a receiver who’s already established himself as a receiver and can grow into this offense and be more productive if allowed,” Kennedy said on the Locked on Raiders Squad Show podcast.

“We’ve seen flashes of it. We haven’t seen consistency, but we saw flashes of it… If we’re going to part ways with him, we’re really starting over again, and this goes back to my original point that I’ve been saying all year. You can’t keep starting over,” Kennedy continued. “You can’t keep starting over with new coaches and new players and expect to get anywhere because it just doesn’t happen overnight. You don’t walk onto the field and be like, ‘Oh, there’s my new number one…'”

“Because this offense hasn’t been consistent throughout the season, we’re still left holding whatever we’re holding in our hands, hoping that we can grip on and maybe get a win or get a collective offense. I don’t know how it happens overnight. That’s why I said this whole Jakobi Meyers things has just been handled, really handled not well, in my opinion.”

With the addition of veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett on Monday, many believe Myers will have a new team sooner than later.

Several teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, have shown interest in Meyers, but it doesn’t sound like the Raiders are going to just let him go to the highest bidder.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, teams are having a hard time getting a read on the Raiders as it pertains to Meyers, and some believe it’s going to take “at least” a Day 2 pick in the draft to get him.

If what Schultz is reporting is accurate, it sounds like the Raiders are looking for at least a third-round pick for Meyers and that would be consistent with what Lincoln Kennedy said last week about the Steelers potentially having a fourth-round pick on the table for Meyers.

Considering the Raiders got a third-round pick for Davante Adams a year ago, a third-round pick for Meyers might be a little optimistic. But you never know.

  1. Whether he gets traded really just depends on
how needy a team is for a wr. Knowing that the Raiders are going to get a 4th rd compensatory pick they have to better that. We will know by Nov. 4.
