Even After Signing DeSean Jackson, Raiders Looking For Another Wide Receiver

The Raiders added 34 year-old DeSean Jackson to boost their wide receiver room this week, but they aren’t done trying to upgrade the position group.

The Raiders reportedly worked out four wide receivers this week…

Jaelen Strong, 27

Strong was drafted in the third round of the 2015 draft and has 330 career receiving yards. He hasn’t been on the field for a regular season snap since 2017.

Jeff Badet, 27

Badet declared for the 2018 NFL draft, but went undrafted and has been on an active NFL roster for only two regular season games in his career. Both with the Washington Football Team.

Gary Jennings, 24

Jennings was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He hasn’t recorded a reception in the NFL and has bounced around five NFL rosters in the last two years.

Marqise Lee, 29

Lee is the one player the Raiders tried out this week with a notable NFL resume. He will turn 30 this month and hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2019 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Safe to say, the Raiders aren’t necessarily expecting to uncover an instant impact player from their latest tryouts at wide receiver. Most of the aforementioned players are not known for their speed, though Badet was clocked at 4.27 in the forty-yard dash at his Oklahoma pro day in 2018.

What about OBJ?

The notable wide receiver on the free agent market right now is, of course, Odell Beckham Jr., but the Raiders are said to have “humongous reservations” about the former All Pro.

Beckham hasn’t been consistently productive for several years now. Some of that has been due to injuries, but it’s worth noting that he hasn’t put up exceptional numbers since 2016.

At this point, if Beckham ends up joining the Raiders it would be a surprise. But they are the Raiders so maybe don’t rule it out until he signs with somewhere else.

    1. Zay can’t get off the line, with press coverage,so without speed at the wr position,NFL defense’s will press your receivers and completey disrupt your passing, which is what happened in New York,so its not a question of who’s better, its about opening up the defense so players like Zay and Bryan Edward’s can get open

  1. I’d sign obj for this season…he will play for a contract next year…we need insurance because DJax could pull a hamstring on his first pass route…

  2. First getna QB that can actually throw the ball more than 20 yards
Any qb in the nfl can have super stats when theybget rid of the ball in 2 secounds look what happends when he has to hang onto the ball a pic or incomplete he panics scared to get hit

    1. I strongly agree with going hard after
      O. B. J. We have no threat on offense with out Ruggs. No one strikes fear into the defense. Such a tragedy, we had the perfect player. O. B. J. would be the best person to add for now.

  3. We have no threat on offense without Ruggs. No one strikes fear into the defense. Such a tragedy, we had the perfect player. O. B. J. would be the best person to add for now.

  4. Better to not think that DJax will be as effective as Ruggs, as he looks a little long in the tooth. Good that he only got a one year deal. Bigger question is, When is Mayock getting canned? We need a lot better production from our draft picks. He has simply missed on too many top picks, and doesn’t appear to be an improvement over Big Reg.
