It was reported on Friday that the Raiders had yet another team meeting involving players and coaches voicing their frustrations and calling out issues within the organization.
According to CBS insider Johnathan Jones, criticisms were wide-ranging between players and coaches in Monday’s meeting following the announcement that offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and two assistant coaches had been fired.
“After Monday’s coaches meeting, the team met with the staff and the floor was open for anyone to speak their mind. According to sources present, a few themes emerged. Players had issues with the schedule not being efficient. There was a lack of organization and ‘wasting time,’ and there was a ‘lack of discipline and accountability,’” Jones reported on Friday.
“Sources tell CBS Sports that several Raiders players, including team captain Maxx Crosby, spoke openly in a players-and-staff meeting Monday addressing what they viewed as inefficiencies and deficiencies within the organization on a week-to-week basis,” Jones continued. “One source described the meeting as ending ‘uncomfortably for all parties.’”
For Raider fans, reports like these have become an all-too-common occurrence, and Monday’s meeting wasn’t even the first of its kind this season.
Former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon is well-connected within the organization and he seemed to be aware of some of the issues addressed in Monday’s meeting when he talked about the organizational failures plaguing the team this season.
Gannon shared his frustration with everyone in the Raiders’ building from the owner, to the head coach, all the way down to the players…
“This is an all too common occurrence with the Raiders. We saw this last year during the season. We see it again this year. It is just an absolute mess,” Gannon said on VSiN Live. “We saw this last year during the season. We see it again this year. It is just an absolute mess. And I think you hired a head coach that does not have experience. You hired an offensive line coach who has never been an offensive line coach in the NFL. He has been an assistant but never really had to run that room.. It is not a good situation there with the Raiders.”
“The other problem is that you look at the football team itself, at some point, we can’t keep firing general managers,” Gannon continued. “We can keep firing head coaches, and position coaches, but at the end of the day how about the players? They have 19 giveaways this year, which is the most in the NFL and it is not even close. They cannot play defense. They are supposed to be good on defense… At some point, somebody in the locker room needs to look around and say ‘You know what guys, how about we play better football? How about we practice harder? How about we pay a little more attention to the details?’ It gets back to the culture and the environment in the building. And to me, that is where I will start.”

Rich Gannon you are correct. Both the offense and defense are horrible. I would make wholesale changes at the end of the year. Starting with the HC and going from there. In my humble opinion, nobody is safe from getting traded or let go. Were rebuilding again.
Man, MIC DROP! Rich summed up exactly how most of us feel. Hard to watch and support, I mean look back at mistakes, you bring in the Rat, fire the rat who goes to Denver and wins 🏆 3 then Chucky gets the boot, then next year gets a championship at Tampa, we’ve had another good coach that got the boot for chucky 2 then chucky goes, you get Rich, who I feel actually should have gotten the job over Mc Duddy. It all starts with ownership!!! Mark, Let Tom be Tom, if you give him a true chance he will turn it around, going to take 5 seasons, but stick with choices.
Spot on Rich !
How about getting out of LV and coming back to Oakland or anywhere in California… LV is not a football town… it’s a giant adult amusement park with distractions… Brock Purdy and tom b we’re not superstars they made plays and made themselves good players… Raiders need players that play in a system that fits…don’t need a billion dollar Quarterback or a superstar receiver who collects a big payday then leaves… stop picking up players that made a name for themselves with other teams and stop getting ridd of good players to get one superstar… get a coach with command and identity… get out of lost Vegas… sell the stadium to the A’s save the A’s time and Save the Raiders from Sin city… don’t know who’s idea to move their was but a very bad football move no home field advantage… it’s more of a greedy business move … MD grow a pair and move back to California admit it was a bad move… other teams though playing in Oakland was bad can you imagine that size stadium anywhere in California… Loud and Proud Raider Fans… i still remember Lester Hayes after the Super Bowl saying the Force was with him… get back to getting players that play and not just one or two over paid players…
GOLDEN STATE RAIDERS… CALIFORNIA RAIDERS… OAKLAND RAIDERS… any one of those names sounds better than lost Vegas… who ever idea it was to move to LV should smell Donkey Farts for the rest of their life…
RAIDER PLAYERS GANNON IS RIGHT!
TAKE A Good LOOK AT THE TAPE !!!! YOU GUYS ARE PATHETIC!!!!
Everyone wants to get payed, but not everyone wants to work for the money. When do the players realize their *** is on the line like everyone else. Get rid of them to who don’t want to play for it.
Amen, amen. A little bit more blame however should have gone to Mark Davis. That’s the only, denominator in the last 22 seasons. Everyone else is coming gone. Thank you Rich for your comments and thank you certainly for your time spent making the Raiders great.
Like Rich says, It’s an absolute mess! Glad he pointed out that the defense isn’t all it’s made out to be. If they are the strength of the team, the team is pretty weak, all around. It all starts with Mark Davis, he doesn’t have a clue!
I think they should have gotten rid of the defensive coordinator also!
They need to evaluate all the issues from players to the coaches fix the problem, it starts with making good smart decisions on your coaching staff and the players you’re going to draft and bring in and free agency, my raiders always seems to blow it with the first overall pick they always turn out to be a bust, Brock was the god’s gift for talent, don’t waste a pic on a quarterback that ain’t worth the pic six or less, best player on the board that helps your team Win
Put Gannon in charge of the team. Or at least in charge of the offense.
I agree with Gannon that we can’t keep firing Head coaches and General Managers. But – that by NO MEANS should imply that the current Head coach and GM shouldn’t be fired and replaced with adequate talent that want to win a game by more than 3 points and KNOW how to do that and to have a GM that is a chess player with players not with $$$.
Adams said last year that he’d run through a wall for AP. Well, he ran right through that wall and kept running all the way to New York. My only hope is that the Raiders have a better record than the Jets this season.
