Raiders Team Meeting this Week Wasn’t Just About the Players: “We Got Personal”

After the difficult season of a year ago, Raider fans are understandably a little skeptical about team meetings involving players and coaches venting their frustrations.

Last year, a tense meeting between Josh McDaniels and the team was the precursor to the former head coaches’ demise, and on Wednesday, players talked about a team meeting this week where players and coaches came together to unload their feelings.

It sounds like the meeting was positive, but there was a similar message coming from the locker room after last year’s meeting.

“[This] meeting was huge because it wasn’t just about players, it was about everybody. The whole building,” Zamir White said on Wednesday. “We really got personal, and we talked about it, and we learned from it.”

“I definitely think it was a conversation between the team that needed to happen,” veteran cornerback Nate Hobbs added. “It was productive. Everybody in the room, I think, got things off their mind and I think that they needed to.”

No one is saying it, but there is definitely a growing frustration in the building around the offense.

Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy was hired by the organization to employ a dominant running game, but the Raiders are the worst team in the NFL, by far, at running the football.

The Raiders rank dead-last in the league in rushing yards per game (51.0) and are an astonishing 21 yards per-game behind the 31st-ranked Chicago Bears (72.7).

“The Raiders have the worst run game in the NFL, and it looks like it’s either systemically broken or the players have no idea what they are doing,” The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen posted on X this week.

Teams have realized that they can defend the Raider offense without putting an extra defender near the line of scrimmage, and it has become a trend to defend the Raiders with two safeties deep.

“Teams have played two high [safeties] against the Raiders, and they haven’t been able to make them pay for it,” The Athletic’s Tashan Reed said prior to last week’s game on the Just Win podcast.

The Panthers went on to completely disrespected the Raiders running game with their defensive scheme in week 3 and still shut down Getsy’s running game with few exceptions.

Josh Dubow on X (formerly Twitter): “Per NextGen stats from @ZebraTechnology, #Raiders RB Zamir White was only RB who didn’t face a stacked box in Week 3 (10+ atts). He had 34 yards on 10 carries and 3 yards less than expectation / X”

If nothing else, maybe all the honesty around the locker room will lead to an improved running game.

  1. True the offense is bad, but the DEFENSE got tore up by a bottom-tier team! Looks like the Raiders don’t have much heart, too show up when the feel like it. Maybe that’s why they wanted AP to get the HC gig. Is AP a soft coach? Can he get these guys to at least play hard every game?

  2. Should have never left Oakland or California. CALIFORNIA IS RAIDER NATION… Best Fan Base in all Sports… since they moved they have no identity… sell that stadium to the A’s and move back to Oakland or somewhere in California… glad for the time i grew up an Oakland Raiders Fan… what happened their is no real fan base or home field Advantage… and now he wants tom brady for a partnership… what a DICK… TUCK rule yes i remember Beaker hit brady he Fumbled and Woodson recovered… and now the tuck rule again as Mark Davis tucks his tail to brady again… they use to have players that play not showoffs for statistics… OAKLAND RAIDERS the heart and soul of the AFC WEST…

  3. Sorry AP is to soft, has to get tough with the players that are not doing their job.. 😡And if the offense don’t do their job this week, getsys has to go..

  5. If you don’t play hard even as pros you must sit the hc has to be hard or the season will be lost hold guy accountable we also have to run the ball. Not sold on O.C.so far this year to predictable

  6. Like I wrote before Luke Getsy was the worst hire by the Raiders. They let Cliff Kingsberry go because he was asking two million dollar more than what Raiders were willing to pay. How many millions are wasted on players who don’t produce for you, and you refuse to pay two million dollars which affects the whole team. Now by saving two million dollars you have the most inept offense in the league. You talk about bad organization you are looking at one penny wise pound foolish.

. Now you will fire Luke either in season are after season, and you will hire another OC. Now everyone has to learn new system. There is no continuity. I have supported this team since 1972, but now I am done.

  7. The problem is you hire an offense coordinator Who was horrible, where he came from The Raiders lost their mind with this higher instead of bringing a young and new generation coordinator in

  8. They fired the last head coach in mid season what makes AP thank he’s better? Why continue to run and continue to lose? What happened to WR Jakobi Meyers he’s the best offensive player they have? It appears to me that they are allowing certain players make the decision for the entire team.. O’Connell is a much better QB than the one that’s starting.. and why you continue to play him when he can’t win.. or see players that are wide open?

  9. They got personal what does that mean? They’re a little Kumbaya moment or what they got personal last year it didn’t do any good until they got rid of the coach. Now it’s time to get rid of Luke getsy he was horrible with the bears and he’s horrible with us. Why did we hire him in the 1st Pl., Telasco doesn’t know what he’s doing why did we hire him? Seems like Mark Davis only cares about one thing the Las Vegas aces
