Prior to the trade that fell through with the Baltimore Ravens, the rumor around Maxx Crosby was that his preferred trade destination was the Chicago Bears.
Last week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the Bears wouldn’t be making a trade for Crosby because they were broke, but one of Schefter’s colleagues at ESPN said on Tuesday that Chicago hasn’t given up the dream of acquiring the Raiders’ All Pro pass rusher.
“The Bears would like to walk away from the next two months with some edge pressure help or some defensive line help, maybe on an interior rusher, possibly on the outside,” league insider Jeremy Fowler said on ESPN’s Get Up.
“They haven’t given up the dream of a Maxx Crosby opening if they can try to buy low a little bit now that he’s back with the Raiders. They kicked the tires on it a couple weeks ago. They ultimately didn’t get seriously involved, but he’s the type of player they would love. Maybe there’s a draft situation they can pull off there.”
It wasn’t long ago that the Bears were the popular frontrunner to trade for Crosby and it’s no secret that Chicago desperately needs to add a pass rusher or two before the start of the season.
Every indication is that the Raiders and Crosby have mended some of their differences, but if a respectable trade offer comes in ahead of the draft, would the Raiders be willing to go down that road again?

Two firsts and a player.
It’s obvious the Ravens were involved in some shifty business, but the damage is done as all the recent news is about how the surgery has a high failure rate.
I don’t see any scenario where the Raiders even get a single first round pick at this point. Maybe if Chicago is as up against the cap as suggested, they might do it if it included the Raiders taking a bad contract back along with the pick, and the Raiders should jump on that if it’s possible. Jerry isn’t giving up #12 for him.
I love Maxx, but what he wants just isn’t my concern at this point, and given his age and the potential for him to not be as effective or reliable going forward is a big risk for the Raiders, too. The Raiders are likely still a couple years away and it’s questionable what Maxx will have left when that time comes. As much as we all love him, would YOU give up 2 firsts if you were a GM, knowing the re-injury rate associated with his surgery?
