Greg Papa Not Convinced Gareon Conley Will Be Ready For Raiders Season Opener

After missing over two months with what the team has only ever referred to as shin splints, Conley (shin injury) returned to practice last week and a report on Monday indicated that the Raiders expect to have him for the season opener against the Titans.

Conley did not play in the final preseason game and play-by-play voice Greg Papa isn’t convinced that the Raiders first-round pick will be ready when the team travels to Tennessee next week.

The Raiders were reportedly in on the Joe Haden sweepstakes so it stands to reason that general manager Reggie McKenzie will be shopping around for another cornerback in the days to come. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Vic Tafur reported on Thursday that he believes the Raiders are open to trading a 5th-round pick or lower.

Two positions where the Raiders seem to be in the most need of help are cornerback and linebacker. What position do you want to see McKenzie upgrade?

  1. Expect 9-7 this year, Las Vegas Raiders fans. Here’s why;

    – The team had the 26-ranked defense last year, and it hasn’t gotten any better. In fact, it’s probably gotten worse, since Sean Smith is starting to look washed up and Malcolm Smith is gone. Meanwhile, the rookie, Conley, won’t be ready to contribute for a while. Outside of Mack, your defensive line can’t pressure the quarterback, and you don’t have a middle linebacker worth a ****.
    – You have the 2nd most difficult schedule this year, right behind Kansas City.
    – You’re not going to have 7 comeback victories in the 4th quarter again. That was historic, and teams will be much more ready to shut you down this year.

    As for all those thoughts about getting to the Super Bowl, set them aside There are at least 3-4 teams decidedly better than your Las Vegas Raiders. The team will be lucky to even MAKE the playoffs this year, let alone win a Super Bowl!

    Time to face reality, all you loyal Raidah fans!!

    1. Gene, you are quite full of yourself and something else. The Rayduz offense will be steam rolling over defenses this year. Our offense has only improved year to year since DC started a QB. The Silver and Black won those 7 comeback victories because of talent. What are you Gene, a donkey fan? Oh that’s right, you didn’t state what team you support. How very brave of you.

      1. I’m not a football fan currently, in part because it’s populated with too many people like you.

  2. Like the Raiders focused so much on their offensive line, they ignored their defensive line. didn’t help DJ Hayden was a bust.
