Raiders Host Mentions Last Year’s 2nd-Round Pick as Trade Rumors Intensify

Trade Rumors have been swirling around Jakobi Meyers for a while, and there’s a good chance the Raiders’ veteran wide receiver is going to have a new team before the November 4 trade deadline.

With the emergence of Tre Tucker and two rookie wide receivers on the roster, Meyers seems to be moving away from the Raiders’ long-term plan at wide receiver,

But after Sunday’s 31-0 loss to the Chiefs, the Raiders might also be willing to consider trading a young player or two, and a name that is likely to come up is Jackson Powers-Johnson.

Raider Nation Radio host Q Myers talked about Powers-Johnson on Sunday night after the game, and he reminded his audience that something hasn’t been right between Powers-Johnson and the organization (or at least someone in the organization) for a couple of months now.

“I’m not reporting anything. But Jackson Powers Johnson, you saw him get benched on Sunday. You saw them bring in Alex Cappa. And look, JPJ was having a rough day. I don’t blame them for sitting them down, but we all know how it’s gone all year with JPJ,” Myers said on the Locked on Raiders podcast on Sunday night.

“Something has not been right. There’s been a disconnect between him and the team somehow. The coaching staff, whatever. I don’t know where the root of that is,” Myers continued. “I don’t know who is not a big JPJ fan. To me, he’s one of the best offense alignments that they have outside of Kolton Miller.

“Kolton Miller is injured, but I’m not the coach. I’m, you know, I’m not the guys that are making those decisions. Obviously, there’s some kind of disconnect somewhere, so I wouldn’t be surprised if a team suffers an injury out there and they need a guard or a center, and they decide that they call the Raiders, ‘Hey, what’s the plans with JPJ?’ Remember, John Spytek didn’t bring him in, so he’s not married to him… when you have all this turnover like the Raiders do, anything is possible.”

For the next two weeks, expect trade rumors to pick up around Meyers, Powers-Johnson, and even Maxx Crosby because the Raiders have entered into a nightmare they weren’t expecting going into the trade deadline.

Just a guess, but Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty are probably the only players on the roster that aren’t on the trade block to some degree – and even then, everyone technically has a price, right?

And as a reminder, Crosby’s contract was extended in the offseason, but his deal was structured in a way that makes his contract surprisingly tradable.

Crosby is the heart and soul of the Raiders both in the locker room and on the field. It would take a massive offer to pry him away from the Raiders, but the details of the extension he signed in the offseason make it clear the door was being left open to trade Crosby.

This OverTheCap graphic (below) shows the dead money consequence and future cap savings if Crosby is traded ahead of June 1. It’s rare that a $30+ million per year contract comes with so much flexibility, particularly this early in the deal.

Trading Crosby might seem unthinkable, but it was only 10 months ago that Crosby sounded like a player who was ready to leave the Raiders.

If a couple of first-round picks are on the table before the trade deadline, it’s possible Spytek and Tom Brady will consider hitting a hard reset on the roster and trading Crosby.

And based on the way his contract was structured in March, it’s something Crosby and the Raiders were both thinking about when they put the new deal in motion.

  1. Ok, apparently JPJ hasn’t been playing good all year and that’s the core issue between him and the staff. I’m sure that with the lack of talent along the OL the staff isn’t just picking on JPJ just because they didn’t draft him. It’s time the think seriously about trading assets that won’t be in their prime after the roster rebuild. The list should include Meyers, Crosby, Mayer, and Miller.

  2. I will use the same logic that the raiders used on Kalilla Mac. They aren’t winning with Crosby , so you might as well trade him.

  3. Given Crosby’s injury, AJ Cole is the Raiders best player. This is the state of the Raiders.

  4. They’re dumb enough to trade JPJ.

Sorry Pete he didn’t manhandle a HOF defensive tackle all game for you.

    Pha q Pete/Brady

  5. This Staff has the weirdest Criteria for who they like as players and it has NOTHING to do with how they Play. Maybe Carroll wants to put the final nails in the Raiders Coffin as payback for when he begged Al Davis for a job and Al didn’t want him… Al let him hang around Camp but had no interest in hiring him… he finally got a shot at USC as the Fourth choice of coaching candidates as there was no one left to hire. Mike Garrett was sick about it but it worked out alright as they won 2 National Championships under Carroll although One Title was vacated (2004) as were ALL wins from 2005 for rampant cheating by Carroll and the University. Destroyed the Program for Years,,, He has Experience in Destroying a team (still brewing bitterness as a washed up coach with no new ideas)

  6. What’s the point of trading for multiple draft picks if the dudes who are drafting can’t distinguish between a football player and a dog catcher.
