The Raiders placed Michael Mayer on the reserve/non-football injury list this week and the second-year tight end will be out until at least after the week 10 bye.
Mayer had been away from the team since at least September 26 for personal matters, and there still isn’t a lot known about the nature of what he is dealing with.
The best information on Mayer to this point has come from Raider Nation Radio host Q Myers, who ruled out a few rumors that were going around about Mayer.
“In the Michael Mayer situation… it’s nothing to do with him wanting to trade or him in playing time or not getting enough targets. It truly is a personal situation. And from what my understanding is, what I’ve been told is that they didn’t know what was going on with Big Mike,” Myers said on the Locked on Raiders podcast.
“His family had to tell the team about a situation that apparently has occurred in his life before that has put him in a position where he’s in,” Myers continued. “And now that they know what it is, they feel like that they can get to a resolution of it. So, I don’t know exactly what that means. That’s the way that it was worded to me.”
It wouldn’t be fair to speculate on Mayer’s personal matters, but it does sound like the team is hopeful to get him back at some point this season.
That being the case, it’s noteworthy that the Raiders waited two weeks to put Mayer on the injured list, which would suggest the situation hasn’t improved the way the team was hoping it might.

Prayers to him and his family. He’s a good man!
Geez man leave it alone. It’s not like he’s Elvis.
i pray that he gets the help he needs. i watched him play at Cov Cath with his brother AJ. I hope he gets the help he needs to move forward. Not just in football but in life. I dont want to speculate but I just want him to know we are praying for him and hope he gets the help he needs.
I love to speculate and I will continue to do so! Here are my 2 cents umm it’s rehab
Prayers for Michael Mayer and his family ✝️
Sounds to me like he needs to focus on taking care of himself and not worry about a football game. Life is stressful enough without wondering what everyone else is thinking. Take care of you first, then worry about the game. Best of luck buddy and keep your head held high 👍😎👍
Okay, lets consider the past 3 weeks, 1st two injury report (paid), now non-football report, (without pay). Sounds like management/agents discussion behind closed door. What does he really have to hide…The best think is to let his fans know what is really going on, fans always give second chances. Besides, fans are not really that stupid. However, as A true Notre Dame fan I hope the best for him, the IRISH and Raider Nation.
