Insider Casts Doubt on Chances Mike Vrabel Will Join the Raiders

There have been several reports in recent weeks linking Mike Vrabel to the Raiders and if Antonio Pierce is fired after the season, there’s no question Vrabel will be at the top of the Raiders’ list of coaching candidates.

Vrabel’s connection to Tom Brady could give the Raiders an advantage over other teams recruiting the former Titans head coach, but according to NFL insider Tony Pauline, there are some who believe Vrabel has his eyes on another team.

“Mike Vrabel is a popular name among Jets fans as the team’s next head coach, but few in the league believe it will happen. The feeling is that Vrabel will use the Jets as leverage to get the job he wants at the salary he wants,” Pauline reported this week.

“Word is that the Las Vegas Raiders will make a run at Vrabel, but people don’t believe he wants that job either. Vrabel wants the New England Patriots job, people close to him tell me, but Robert Kraft seems intent on bringing back Jerod Mayo – at least at present time.”

For what it’s worth, Pauline is on somewhat of an island with his reporting on Vrabel.

Several mainstream reports have suggested Vrabel is interested in the Raiders and some believe the Raiders are the team Dan Orlovsky was talking about when he said last week that Vrabel was “spoken for.”

NFL Network’s Peter Schrager said this week to “keep an eye” on Vrabel if Pierce is fired, and his position seems to be the more popular sentiment at the moment.

If Vrabel isn’t the next head coach of the Raiders, it feels like the coach with the next best odds might be the one already in the building.

Despite having a depleted roster, Pierce has won two consecutive games, and the offense is starting to show signs of life under interim offensive coordinator Scott Turner.

Additionally, the Raiders are getting better quarterback play from Aidan O’Connell and that could factor into how the team approaches the offseason.

O’Connell might not be a clear starting quarterback in the NFL, but he at least puts the Raiders in a position where they might not feel the need to roll the dice in free agency the way they did a year ago.

  1. Another off the wall story, no bearing or substance whatsoever. Insider yawn 🥱 boring. Wake me up when Vrabel’s news conference is on behind the silver and black podium.

  2. I think Telesco sabotaged AP. Don’t get me wrong AP has some issues, but they play hard for him. Minshew was a huge mistake and I think since he’s 1st year coach he buckled, he knew GD well AOC was a better QB. Also he wanted Kingsbury and Telesco interfered with that as well ,gave Getsy WTF! Now they’re better going with a power Run instead of that zone blocking bullshit.
I say he should get another year. Build the lines get a better RB and we’ll be very competitive. D is pretty good even with all the injuries.

  3. O’k this team tanked the entire season. They get 2wins and 11losses. They are in line to get
the 1st pick in the draft. All they have to do is keep losing, keep quitting on themselves. So what do they do? They win two of their last three games and go from 1st pick to about 8th
Pick. They can’t even lose when they should lose. They already can’t win when it helps themselves. Now, they win when it’s the only way to sabotage themselves. I’m done with
    this team.
