Insider Expects Raiders to Make a Change at Head Coach

It’s no secret that Antonio Pierce is on the hot seat, but with a two-game winning streak going into the final week of the regular season, is the Raiders’ first-year head coach strengthening his case to keep his job?

It’s possible, but the odds still seem to favor the Raiders finding a new head coach after the season.

Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter addressed Pierce’s job status this week on his daily podcast, and he feels the scales are tilting towards Pierce being fired.

“At this point, I’m going to tell you if I had to bet one way or another, I think that they will probably make a change [at head coach],” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. “That’s not me saying they should. I’m just going off some things.”

As others have pointed out, only Mark Davis really knows the fate of Pierce, but there have been hints in the last few weeks that Davis is leaning towards making a change.

Carpenter and others have reported for weeks that GM Tom Telesco will probably keep his job after the season, but it will be interesting to see if he retains the level of control he has now.

Hypothetically, if Mike Vrabel becomes the next head coach, there’s a good chance that Telesco wouldn’t be his first choice to be his GM. That isn’t to say Vrabel wouldn’t work with Telesco, but as we saw with Jon Gruden when he arrived in Oakland for his second stint, these arranged marriages don’t always play out as well in the real world as they do on paper.

That’s something to keep in mind if the team brings in another CEO-type head coach and tries to pair him with Telesco, who reminded everyone in his first year with the Raiders that he can at least be trusted in the draft.

And speaking of the draft, the Raiders have a big quarterback decision coming in this year’s draft.

University of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been the recipient of a lot of bad press in recent days and there’s a chance the Raiders will have an opportunity at him a little further down the draft board than it looked like a few weeks ago.

Whether it’s Sanders or another quarterback, all eyes will be on Telesco (and apparently Tom Brady) this offseason to deliver the Raiders their quarterback of the future.

  1. How do you build a team with so many coaching changes. Why would a free agent player want to come to your team when there is such turnover.
    First year Coach
    Belichick 5-11
    Reid 5-11
    Campbell 3-13-1

You need to build they all start out somewhere and build a team. Stop the revolving door.

    1. A former Raider once told me it’s more about the players buying the coach than buying the coach’s playbook. AP better stay

  2. Just keep AP !!!
Let him build the Raiders!!! Like Campbell did with The Lions!!!
Davis mess up big time by not hiring RB as the Raiders HC. Raiders HAD the coach and the team. Davis F@&$ Up big time by hiring McDaniel. Now look at the Raiders. Let AP take care of the Raiders.
Stop trying to reevent the wheel.
    It’s not rocket science.
Davis needs to keep AP so he can bring the Raiders as a contender.
If Davis doesn’t keep the Raiders well, see you next year!!!
Been a raiders fan since the 80’s.
    KEEP AP!!!!

  3. Maybe throw Mr know it all Brady into the coaches job you have tried so many so far 🤔

    1. Brady is an investor and that’s what he should do stay out of the way. If all these so-called insiders think he should do more, then have him leave his announcing gig and hire him to be GM or Coach. Otherwise stay out of the way.
He is a minority owner in the Las Vegas Aces but I don’t see him making changes on there. There they let people do their jobs and have been a winning franchise.

  4. one more year for AP. he was a rookie … they’re fighting and close… one more year you will know for sure… I think it will work. thank you

  5. Ap SUCKS
Why would you keep an IDIOT that kept you from the #1 spot…whiteout or trade for assets cause we need a lot…he screwed Rahs nation.
