Raiders Insider Lists (in Order) His 4 Front Runners to be the Next Head Coach in Las Vegas

The Raiders’ coaching search has been ramping up in recent days, and at least one candidate (Ejiro Evero) will reportedly meet with the team next week for a second interview.

Evero interviewed with the Raiders in 2023 when the team decided to go with Antonio Pierce, and he has not been listed by many as a front runner to get the job this year.

The expectation, at least for now, is that the Raiders are looking to hire an offensive-minded coach, and the Sean McVay coaching tree has been getting a lot of attention.

Earlier in the week, Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer pointed to Davis Webb as his favorite to get the Raiders’ job, but one of his colleagues is putting more stock in another name in this year’s hiring cycle.

“Davis Webb, I have at four. Nate Scheelhaase, I’ve got him at three,” SI’s Hondo Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

“I told you the day we broke the story that Pete [Carroll] was getting fired, and you can go back and read the article. The two leading candidates [are] Mike LaFleur and Klint Kubiak. They still are,” Hondo continued.

“No. 2 on my list is Mike LaFleur. He’s a brilliant mind and when he has that interview, I expect he’s going to blow them away… and then Klint Kubiak, I think, without a doubt is your leader. I was asked today by someone, if you had to bet, well, I don’t bet on this stuff, but I, at this point, I think Kubiak, LaFleur, Davis, Scheelhaase, it’s those four I think the coach will come from. I’ve told you from day one, I thought it would be the LaFleur [or] Kubiak.”

What was interesting about Carpenter’s comments is that he said “without a doubt” he views Kubiak as the “leader” to get the job. It’s a fluid situation, but that’s a fairly strong statement to make.

With that in mind, there is still a lot that needs to play out, and it’s possible a head coaching opportunity could open up in Buffalo in the next few days.

Nevertheless, based on the current openings around the league, the Raiders figure to be one of the more attractive coaching opportunities in this year’s hiring cycle.

With the no. 1 pick in the draft (i.e. Fernando Mendoza) and well over $100 million in projected salary cap room, there will be no lack of opportunity to overhaul the roster in Las Vegas before next season.

  1. Hondo is unfortunately a bad source literally for anything, why he’s a raiders beat writer is shocking in it self 😭.. Please disregard his comments on anything and stop using this tool for anything, period..

  2. Please tell me – why do you think the Raider HC position is attractive? Because whoever gets picked will make a lot of money in a short time before leaving town? Upper management certainly isn’t a draw. The past 23 years isn’t going to lure anyone. I see very little that would resonate with any potential HC that would draw him to Vegas.

    1. What you can’t read or just have a thick skull? The article just told you why it’s an attractive job, 1st overall pick should be a franchise qb in Fernando Mendoza plus 100 million dollars in cap space! The past years the Raiders already have drawn top coaches they brought Gruden out of the booth in tv and also got Josh Mcdaniels to accept the job after the turned down countless teams, now those coaches haven’t worked out but they haven’t had a problem bringing in top NFL coach’s. Do some homework buddy!

      1. I guess some fans are gullible and easy to please. I’m not convinced the first draft pick and $100 million in cap space is going to pull the organization out of the depths of sub mediocrity. Do you remember JaMarcus Russell? Are you aware of the 20+ year coaching carousel we’ve lived through? You can believe what you read but I’ll stick to believing what I’ve seen. Wow.

      2. Wow, too much caffeine? Dan wrote nothing to deserve that type response, re-read before you send a reply. It’s better for people to think you’re a tool, than to reply and remove all doubt.

    2. It’s still Vegas. As dumb as Mark is, he really doesn’t interfere, plus Vegas will be an entertainment attraction & is way more affordable than California.

The main issue is Brady, if I’m the coach the 1st thing I tell that cheater is stay out of my business & game planning. You got helpful advice for Mendoza, have @ it, but stay in your lane

  3. I hope the Rams get eliminated tonight, Broncos winning doesn’t help, I feel like the new coach will come from one of these organizations. If Buffalo makes a change, no doubt, the Raiders job gets dropped further down the list. (1) Giants, filled, (2) Ravens, Lamar, (3) Falcons, playoff ready, now filled (4) Steelers, traditional job security (5) Titans QB and weapons on offense, salary cap space (5) Raiders, #1 pick, salary cap space (6) Browns, playoff ready defense (7) Dolphins, Complete Rebuild (8) Cardinals, Some Talent, no QB, and they’re the Cardinals. If Buffalo makes a change, it will be the best job available.

  4. The problem the Raiders have is they don’t really have a home field advantage. Most of the seats are filled with the opposing team’s fans in Vegas for the weekend.

    1. Yeah, I feared that would be the case when they moved, maybe if they can get some stability, continuity, and start winning consistently it will change, but I have my doubts.

  5. And who would pay one of the most expensive tickets in the league to go see the mess they’ve wrought over the years?!
The problem is that we’re disgusting. If we were still in the Bay Area, the stadium would be empty, as has been the case in recent years, where, coincidentally, we were disgusting too! Being in LV, instead of being empty, it’s full of opposing fans. Come back decent for a couple of years in a row, and you’ll see that the problem will be solved 70-80%.
