Insider Projects Cost for Raiders to Trade for Bryce Young

Unless Gardner Minshew or Aidan O’Connell show big improvement between now and the end of the season, the Raiders are going to be one of the most aggressive teams in the upcoming quarterback market.

One quarterback they will certainly do their due diligence on will be 2023 first-overall pick Bryce Young.

Young is still only 23 years-old and has the top-tier potential to be the player many thought he would be prior to last year’s draft.

It wasn’t a great sign that Andy Dalton did everything against the Raiders that Young wasn’t able to do in two previous starts, but for the sake of curiosity, it would be interesting to know the cost it would require to get Young from the Panthers.

“The consensus in league circles is that the Panthers would be hard pressed to get more than a Day-3 draft pick from Young, along the lines of what the San Francisco 49ers received in shipping Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys,” The Athletic’s Joseph Person reported this week.

In the same report, Raiders beat writer Tashan Reed was asked what he believed would be a reasonable trade for the Raiders to acquire Young.

“While the Raiders’ process leading up to the 2023 draft was carried out by former general manager Dave Ziegler and coach Josh McDaniels, that doesn’t mean they’re no longer interested in Young. Among the current regime led by GM Tom Telesco and coach Antonio Pierce, there are some who believe that Young’s 18-game sample size with the Panthers isn’t enough to fully evaluate him as a quarterback,” Reed said.

“Young may be worth a flier,” he continued. “The Raiders making a move for his services before the trade deadline in November, however, would likely require Minshew’s performance to lag significantly and for O’Connell to fail to provide an upgrade. In that scenario, the Raiders’ 2025 fourth-round pick feels like a fair offer in return for Young. He’s had a rough start to his career, but the 23-year-old quarterback could be another reclamation project for a franchise known for helping players change their fortunes for the better.”

For now, the Panthers have indicated that they are not interested in trading Young, but everyone knows he’s going to be available sooner than later.

He might not be a fit for the Raiders, but somebody is going to take a flier on Young and it sounds like the cost is expected to be relatively cheap.

  1. Stop it. The Raiders should never have interest in Young and its this type of thinking and decision making that has this team in the predicament they vicariously sit. They need an offensive line that can run/pass block (having all that excess salary cap money you would think someone would have paid better attention to our line.) A good offensive coordinator would have been nice instead of hurrying n grabbing another teams cast away (suppose to have been able to scheme running game.) Why did we pay all that money to get Wilkins if he wasnt going to help. You see what happens when we dont put pressure on QB they shredded us. Our run defense is lacking as well. Bottom line getting rid of Josh Jacobs (someone not desiring to reward a player that we drafted n earned his money) who is having himself a good start to season everyone pumping up White who fails to hit holes that are there when Jacobs is known for hitting the holes, making players miss, n making his own holes. We keep players that dont deserve it (Tyree Wilson) and allow our deserving players to leave. It ultimately the blame lies with Mark Davis making horrible decisions. I believe Davis did not want to hire Pierce as HC but was pressured by some of the players. I believe that Davis will get rid of Pierce as soon as he can n probably bring back Gruden. We should still have Carr, Jacobs, n Mack n guarantee this team would have it together. I can point to so many things wrong, things I knew would come to surface n all these experts n professionals apparently miss. I have called everything for many years even in 2016 when Raiders had 12-4 record I knew they were not a legit 12-4 team they just excelled in 3 categories that made the difference in games. The crazy thing is this team is not that far away from being a true contender but unless someone makes correct decisions we will continue to have disappointing seasons.

  2. I would probably do a 4th to take a flyer on Young, but there is nothing about this coaching staff that makes me confident they’re better equipped to get more out of Young than Frank Reich and Dave Canales have.

  3. If Telesco and Davis don’t get AP help at qb they are the problem not AP. The man has pleaded and expressed his desire for a running qb. Yah young is not much of a runner but he can be better than Menshew or O’Connell god help me. If you want a runner go get Hooker or Lance. This is a lost season. Hockey starts in 2 weeks……….
