Former Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow made headlines last month when it was reported he was visiting his former team for a workout.
Renfrow is said to be considering a return to the NFL after sitting out the 2024 season, but he left his Las Vegas visit with no buzz about a potential signing.
Two weeks later, the Raiders are still in need of help at the wide receiver position, but it doesn’t look like there is anything imminent between Renfrow and the Raiders.
“It doesn’t sound like the reunion is going to happen,” The Athletic’s Vic Tafur wrote this week about Renfrow potentially returning to Vegas. “Though the Raiders could always revisit it after the draft.”
With the draft now less than two weeks away, teams are going to be hesitant to sign free agents, but there is also another date to keep an eye on at the end of the month.
Any players signed on or after April 28 will not count toward next year’s compensatory pick formula and the Raiders are in good position to gain pick(s) next year by laying low in free agency until then.
Last week, Tafur talked about the Raiders’ wide receiver situation and at the time he believed former Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett was a good bet to end up in Las Vegas.
“As far as the receiver goes, I think there are some veteran guys still in this market… I still think Tyler Lockett probably winds up here. I think he’s waiting to see how this market goes, and I think Stefon Diggs was the last domino to fall,” Tafur said on the Just Win podcast.
“He got more, probably, than people thought he was going to get, so I think for Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper, [they are] kind of waiting to see if they can get something close to that and Lockett probably is after that. I think it happens at some point, they’ll a veteran guy to the mix, because right now their depth at wide receiver is not very good. I think you need another one before the draft.”
Lockett is 32 years old and will turn 33 in September, but he has the obvious relationship with Carroll and Geno Smith. In theory, Lockett shouldn’t need additional time getting in sync with Smith, so there might not be urgency on either side to get anything done before the start of offseason activities.

Bring 3rd and renfro and Amari Cooper back. For an insurance policy go get Lockett. He’s got game that’s all.
If the numbers are correct on Over the Cap Spy and Pete gave up 2 5th round compensation picks to sign Eric Stokes and E. Roberts. It would’ve been fine if they gave each 3.0 instead of 3 plus. Those are terrible roster decisions for a rebuilding team. We need more picks not less. And the Koonce contract is ridiculous as well. A prove it deal would’ve been something like Chaisson got from NE a 1-3 with incentives not a 1-12. That decision would’ve netted yet another 5th rounder if they swapped places.
Koonce will rock the world. 8 sacks after Mcstupid was canned in 8 games. I will say that he may have more sacks than showboat Crosby. Get your popcorn and cold beer ready I really think Malcom is going to have a great one.🙌
I would love to see Coop and Frow redeem what I considered bad decision-making.
I think that the RAIDERS should give Refro a second chance looking at the situation on why he left. Refro is a true Raider.
