Insider on the Raiders and Texas QB Quinn Ewers: “File That One Away”

Is Quinn Ewers to the Raiders turning into a real possibility?

If nothing else, Ewers is a big fan of Pete Carroll, and he told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that the two shared some things in common in their time together at his official team visit.

“Coach Carroll was awesome,” Ewers told Pelissero on the Rich Eisen Show. “He’s always talking about ‘Compete, compete, compete.’ I think he probably says that word a hundred times a day. It would be super cool to be part of a franchise that they live and die by the way they compete. I doesn’t matter what you’re doing. If you’re in the building, he said you are either competing or you’re not. There’s no in between. I feel like that’s kind of how I already live, so it definitely would be cool [to play for Carroll].”

But it wasn’t just Ewers’ comments on Carroll that stood out in the segment.

Based on Pelissero’s statement after the interview, he sounds like an insider who knows something about how the Raiders feel about Ewers.

“Quinn Ewers’ [visiting] Vegas, that Pete Carroll meeting, I would just say file that one away,” Pelissero said. “I don’t know. The Saints certainly are a possibility there. Write it down and don’t check the odds on it because I can’t give gambling advice.”

Pelissero said it was just his “opinion” that Ewers would be a fit with the Raiders, but his platform is different than a lot of the talking heads and tweeters on social media. It’s a safe bet (or should be, at least) that his thoughts are based on more than a gut feeling.

Ewers generally hasn’t been projected to be drafted in the first round, but he will most likely be one of the first quarterbacks taken on day two of the draft.

  1. I definitely think the raiders should take Ewers in rd 2, even if that means trading up to get him.

  2. Writing off Aiden after he’s had three OC’s in two seasons would be asinine. Especially if your wasting a draft pick.

  3. Too early to take Ewers with the 37th pick. The 3rd rd would be about right for him. He’s a pocket passer that has trouble avoiding the rush. In today’s NFL a team needs a QB that can buy time in the pocket, and Ewers needs a lot of work in that aspect., so 2nd rd would be a reach.

  4. If I was the trash Raiders, if they’re not taking Shedeur Sanders, and they are considering Ewers in the later rounds, I would take Kyle McCord instead
