The Raiders running game is the worst in the NFL and after only three games, some are wondering if offensive coordinator Luke Getsy might be on the hot seat.
Raider insider Vic Tafur talked about Getsy on the Just Win podcast this week and he doesn’t believe Getsy’s job is on the line.
“I think he’s fine,” Tafur said of Luke Getsy’s job status. “I think if they make a change, it might be a quarterback at some point.”
“The main issue is the running game,” Tafur continued. “They’re trying to figure it out. And Antonio Pierce, that’s what he wants to do. He’s a run first guy. I think it definitely bothers him. I’m sure Luke [Getsy] cares about it. ‘Like, ‘why are we so bad at running the ball?’ Whether it is a change on the O-line or maybe a change in the running backs or change the scheme at some point, I think that’s definitely his main objective right now. And his main job duty is to get that game going.”
The problem for Getsy, though, is that he was brought to Las Vegas to be running game guru, and the Raiders running game is worse than it’s ever been.
Maybe the learning process under Getsy is just taking longer than expected, but time isn’t a commodity in the NFL. If the Raiders’ running game doesn’t show signs of life soon, there has to be a tangible response from the coaching staff.
Tafur mentioned the idea of making a change at quarterback, and while that might be another matter worth addressing, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to suggest Gardner Minshew would be the team’s biggest issue with the running game – and to be clear, it didn’t necessarily sound like that’s what Tafur was saying.
Maybe if the passing game opens up, the running game will follow, but there seems to be a deeper-rooted issue with the offense right now.
Whatever that is, it needs to be figured out quickly.
Fortunately for the Raiders, they have a massive coaching staff with a tremendous amount of experience. Someone among that group should be able to identify the issues with the Raiders’ running game and put together an effective plan to do something about it.

Horrible play calling and disastrous to move to ZBS. It failed last time….
Getsy ‘s offensive scheme’s is not working . As a Raider Fan since 1960, it’s just a total waste of time, after all these years ,we deserve better . ” You can’t fool the Raider’s Fans of old of what works and what doesn’t !
Bring back the bomb on first down, and break up the monotony, of inconsistency !
If the offensive coordinator, can’t handle change, then change the compliancy ….
Getsy would not have that much time with me. White did just fine towards the end of last season. Therefore I would expect a lot of yards by my RB THIS WEEK or I’d be seeing his butt crossing the threshold of the front door on Monday period
Certainly, Getsy has hardly looked great, but there’s always the possibility that the Raiders players just aren’t good enough to run the ball well consistently. Again, I believe they finished 30th in rushing offense last year. I know they were better in the last quarter of the season, so there was probably some recency bias going into the season, but the larger body of work says they’re just not very good in the running game.
