Insider Reveals John Harbaugh’s Believed “Prerequisites” for Next Head Coaching Gig

The Raiders aren’t considered to be the front runners to land John Harbaugh as their next head coach, and Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter laid out some of the reasons why on Thursday.

On Friday, ESPN’s Tony Grossi shared what he is hearing Harbaugh is looking for from his next coaching stop.

“I talked to a league insider who speculates on what he’s heard about Harbaugh’s prerequisites to even be interested in your job,” Grossi told ESPN Cleveland on Friday.

“[He wants] $20 million a year, $10 million assistant coach budget, total authority over the roster and also would like to select his own personnel guy to lean on.”

ESPN Cleveland on X (formerly Twitter): “.@TonyGrossi has found out what John Harbaugh’s requirements are to be interested in his next HC job: – $20 million per year – $10 million staff budget – Total authority over the roster – Would like to select his own GM Would you do this if you’re the Browns? pic.twitter.com/fvswssVSjF / X”

Safe to say, if those are Harbaugh’s conditions, the Raiders will be out.

No one is taking Tom Brady’s authority in his second year with the team and that’s a big reason why John Spytek is sitting on one of the safest jobs of any general manager in the league.

Additionally, it is widely believed that Harbaugh was fired in Baltimore in part because he couldn’t get the most out of Lamar Jackson.

If the Ravens weren’t happy with Harbaugh’s ability to get the most from a former league MVP, why would the Raiders be quick to put him in charge of the quarterback they eventually select with the first overall pick?

  1. I would pass on Harbaugh. Someone needs to remind him that he got fired from his last HC gig.

  2. PROs & CONs OF JOHN

    PRO(s):
    * John Harbaugh is a future HOF Head Coach no doubt. (Everyone knows it and so his agent and P.R. people are floating his price tag which will be negotiated down if there are not multiple bidders.)

    * John Harbaugh’s next win as a H.C. will set an NFL record for the most wins in NFL history as a H.C. His winning percentage is very high but no one will ever touch John Madden’s and that is the legacy of our team that must be recaptured.

    CON(s):
    * Al Davis believed the maximum amount of time that a H.C. had in the NFL was was ten years. This is because these years are dog years in the NFL. (You would think that Mark Davis would know the principals of his father, but Mark has always been checked out so he just needs go ahead and let others run this team as he is, reportedly.)

    * We just got done getting ” CON”ed by a retread that only Mark Davis would have bought and will still be paying for the next two years. ( Happy paid vacation for the next two years “Sneaky Pete.” )

    * John Harbaugh will develop and run a segregated roster, the Ravens had no diversity. Championship teams always have a good mix of players, it is good for team chemistry and brings out the most in players. (This is self evident even in recent NFL history, despite the NFL’s: social, labor relations and profit margin agendas all in an intersection.)

    * The Raiders can’t afford this price tag. Anymore failed Head Coach’s on payroll and Mark loses this team, Hmmm, that would not be a bad thing though.

    * The article above has good points.
