Raiders Interview with Davis Webb “Not Good, It Was Phenomenal”

The Raiders are early in their process of hiring a new head coach, but one of the up-and-coming names in this year’s candidate pool met with the team on Wednesday.

Davis Webb has enjoyed good publicity in recent days, but it actually started before the season when league insider Ari Meirov called Davis the league’s top coaching candidate at 30 years of age or younger.

Not much had been reported on Webb’s interview with the Raiders prior to Friday, but according to Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter, the interview made a big impression on the team.

“Davis Webb, who is the 30-year-old passing game coordinator for the Broncos, interviewed the other day with the Raiders, and late last night I got some great feedback on the interview. It was told that it was not good. It was phenomenal,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

“I would just say this, I think the Raiders were very pleasantly surprised. I’m not predicting he’s going to get a second interview, but it would not shock me at all. I asked the person I spoke to, do you think [there] is going to be a second interview? And their exact words were, ‘Wouldn’t be surprised.’ That was exactly how they worded it.”

It’s not uncommon for teams to leak a positive response to coaching interviews, but it does seem like Webb is candidate that is going to get serious consideration in this year’s hiring cycle.

At 30 years old, Webb might require some patience, but if the Raiders have been clear about anything in the last two weeks, it’s that they intend to approach the offseason with the big picture in mind.

There will be no short-term 74-year-old head coaches coming to Las Vegas in Tom Brady’s second offseason in charge.

And for anyone interested in a crazy rumor…

Former Buccaneers quarterback Shaun King said this week that he heard Tom Brady and company are considering a wild trade proposal to the Steelers.

“I do have something that I’ve heard, and I’ve got this from a very reliable source… but the Raiders’ ‘Plan A’ is to offer the Pittsburgh Steelers the no. 1 pick in the draft for Mike Tomlin,” King said on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show on Wednesday.

There are a lot of reasons to believe King’s source doesn’t have good information on the Raiders, but even using the common-sense method, nothing about the way things played out between Pete Carroll and the front office in Las Vegas would suggest the team wants to add another big personality to their decision-making process.

Not buying this one.

Shaun King on Shedeur Sanders’ development/upside, how the Browns screwed up & head coach candidates

With his sack of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s finale, Garrett reached 23 for the season, breaking the NFL’s single-season sack record. The takedown in the Browns’ 20-18 victory pushed Garrett past the previous record of 22.5 sacks that was set by Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan in 2001 and matched by Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J.

  1. Tom Brady is 2 Quarts Low. Too many hits, stay in St Barth with the ladies but staying away from raiders is paramount

    1. I’ve been a raider fan for 55 years now, and it is a joke anymore. The whole organization has turned into a **** show Al is rolling over in his grave how his son has made a laughing stock out of the whole organization.

      1. I’m thinking Trinidad Chambliss as no1 pick! The oc from Seattle. The DC Graham should be retained! This is the trio that would lead to a winning season, to say the least!!

        1. Trinidad Chambliss?!

You’re unlikely to be drafted before the third round, and you’d take him with the first overall pick?! With Mendoza available?!?
This would be a Raiders move…

          1. Trinidad chanbliss 3rd round? He’s not in the draft dumb dumb. He’s an offensive of coordinator.. lmao and if u think Mendoza is going to do anything 4 us your retarded. Until MD moves on into the after life.. the raiders will remain the laughing stock of the NFL. coming from a die hard raiders fan who is ready to switch to teams, witch would be the team that maxx gets traded too. As long as it’s not the pats, cowgirls,or eagles…lol

  2. WOW, REALLY!! The Raiders are already f*#king thinks up before next season starts?! With both those God awful decisions?! That would not SUPRISE me. No wonder the team is so bad, it all starts from the TOP!!!!

  3. I really like Webb…and now Hondo has ruined it for me. $100 says Hondo just texted Webb’s agent.

  4. No freaking way! Tomlin is close to being fired at Pitt. He certainly isn’t worth anything close to the top pick. Shaun King remains a joke like when he played!

    1. Let’s stay calm ….the ship hasn’t sailed yet….when it does let brady be on it…old school raider since 1967 …seen allot over the years as the song says ain’t no mountain high enough to climb…WE are champions don’t forget that!!

      1. 1967 the ship sailed with AL died. Haven’t been champs in a almost 40 year’s. Dude I need your what ever you’re smoking on!

  5. If the Raiders don’t draft Fernando Mendoza with the number one pick , Davis should sell the team!!

  6. The Raiders are a really really bad team in a good position!! They can get a really good Coach now. Don’t screw it up!! Got a few young players that can play. Just need to build the team through the draft. Play the cards you are dealt. Next year add even more talent. Get your QB, your offensive line together and then the D- line,LB and Corners

  7. At my house, Trinidad Chambliss is the QB for Ole Miss… idiot.
Do everyone a favor and start cheering for the 49ers.
