Insider Says Raiders Circled Back to Derek Carr After Learning Tom Brady Wasn’t Coming to Las Vegas

Josh McDaniels is no longer with the Raiders, but it’s going to take a while before the team recovers from a lot of his personnel decisions.

One of those failed personnel decisions was Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo has been referred to as McDaniels’ “hand-picked” quarterback, but we’ve learned in recent days that there were several quarterbacks the Raiders tried to add prior to signing Garoppolo.

In fact, a Sports Illustrated report this week indicated that McDaniels and company actually circled back to Derek Carr to see if he would be interested in coming back.

Via Sports Illustrated’s Hondo Carpenter on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast

“This has never been reported, but I’m willing to report it now because they are no longer here. They circled the wagon back around to try to see if the relationship could be repaired with Derek. Derek, I said this before, had a great respect for Ziegler. There was no animosity with him and McDaniels.

I believe there was an understanding that the Raiders had to bench him or take a shot at him being injured, and that contract being guaranteed. But when they circled the wagon back to feel Derek out… Derek had already been talking to teams. He already knew there was a market and what I was that was not what Derek wanted. I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t blame him one bit.

The franchise as a whole in it’s totality, didn’t want Derek. So why would he go back?”
