Raiders Fire Head Coach Josh McDaniels, Who Had A 6-Year Deal With the Team

The Josh McDaniels era is officially over in Las Vegas.

Raiders owner Mark Davis issued a statement on Tuesday night announcing that he has decided to part ways with both McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler…

“After much thought about what the #Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh [McDaniels] and Dave [Ziegler], I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best.”

The announcement came as a surprise to many as Davis had reportedly given assurances to Ziegler and McDaniels that they would keep their jobs through at least the 2024 season.

According to ESPN, McDaniels still had four years remaining on his deal with the team.

“McDaniels was in his second season leading the Raiders after signing a six-year contract in January 2022,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. “He has over four full years left on the deal that Las Vegas is obligated to pay.”

It was an expensive decision by Davis to fire McDaniels, but one that needed to be made. Players were becoming increasingly frustrated with McDaniels and the locker room seemed to be tuning him out.

ESPN is reporting that the Raiders will name linebackers coach Antonio Pierce as their interim head coach and Champ Kelly will assume GM responsibilities.

  1. This was the absolute best thing Mark Davis did. Bringing prestige back to Oakland Raiders football. The patriots way didn’t work in Denver and sure enough wasn’t working in Vegas.
