Insiders Agree Raiders Did “Great” with Jakobi Meyers Trade, Tucker the New No. 1

Leading up to Tuesday’s trade deadline it was becoming increasingly more likely the Raiders would trade Jakobi Meyers, and despite reports that they weren’t taking anything less than a Day 2 draft pick, a return that high for Meyers was never a realistic outcome considering Davante Adams only fetched a third-round pick a year ago.

As it turned out, the Raiders were able to get fourth and a sixth-round picks for Meyers and Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer believes that was an impressive return for the Raiders.

“Along those lines, the Raiders did great to get fourth and sixth-round picks for receiver Jakobi Meyers, who was playing out the string in Vegas,” Breer reported on Tuesday.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vinny Bonsignore was live on Raider Nation Radio’s Morning Tailgate when the trade was announced, and he said the value was better than he was expecting.

“I think [this] was the right thing to do for the Raiders,” Bonsignore said immediately after the trade was announced.

“We talked about a floor that you just weren’t willing to give him up for and what did we say? A fifth-round pick. Well, they got even more than that in a fourth and a sixth. That tells me that there was a market for him and that there was some competition for him, and that the Jacksonville Jaguars sweetened the deal by adding another sixth-round pick.”

Meyers played out his final season with professionalism despite the Raiders not showing show a lot of interest in re-signing him. According to reports, Meyers asked for a trade “multiple times” in his final year in Las Vegas and never once groaned to the media the way Adams did a year ago.

With Meyers out of the equation in Las Vegas, Tre Tucker becomes the new no. 1 wide receiver in Chip Kelly’s offense and three weeks ago Kelly made a stong statement on Tucker.

“He’s been great, and I think he’s probably our best practice player,” Kelly said about Tucker.

“He’s got these three or four passes over 20, getting behind people, but that’s what he does in practice, also. He’s kind of that what you want to show as a guy, like this is how you practice, that means this is how you’re going to play. And he’s a great example of that.”

A few days later, Tucker led the Raiders in receptions (5) and receiving yards (70), and CBS analyst Jonathan Vilma made an interesting claim about Tucker during the broadcast.

“That connection… between Geno [Smith] and Tre Tucker, he is their no. 1,” Vilma said on the CBS broadcast during Sunday’s game. “Jakobi Meyers, Chip Kelly may tell me that, but Jakobi Meyers is not no. 1, it’s Tre Tucker. Geno has a favorite guy and that’s him.”

  1. The usual BS analysis of another failed move by Raiders mismanagement. When do these sportswriters stop with the kiss *** assements of any Raiders moves and start with the hardcore and truthful critique of this profitable but brain dead team? Sucking up is keeping these guys in the good graces of the team but it’s not addressing why this team can’t win games.
