After Week 9 Loss, is a Fire Sale Coming for the Raiders?

The Raiders fell to 2-6 with Sunday’s 30-29 overtime loss to the Jaguars and any realistic chances of making the playoffs have evaporated again before the trade deadline.

Difficult decisions are coming for the power brokers in the Raiders’ building, and it will be interesting to see if Tom Brady and GM John Spytek are inclined to unload a few players before Tuesday’s trade deadline that they weren’t considering a day ago.

Everyone knows about Jakobi Meyers’ trade request, but if winning football isn’t coming to the desert for another year or two, would it make sense to revisit phone calls on Maxx Crosby?

What if a team like the Cowboys offers multiple first-round picks for Crosby?

Crosby tweeted after Sunday’s game that Raiders fans “deserve better” and even though multiple reports have said he doesn’t want to be traded, Crosby did seem like a player that was ready for a new team just 10 months ago.

Maxx Crosby on X (formerly Twitter): “Raider Nation I Love Yall With Everything In My Heart & Soul. Yall Deserve Better. Stay As One, It Will Change. 🦅🖤 / X”

Not everyone believes the Raiders have slammed the door shut on a Crosby trade, and it’s no secret that his offseason extension was structured in a way that would allow the team to trade him without significant cap consequences – that didn’t happen by chance.

It might still be a long shot that Crosby will be traded, but who would blame him if he told the Raiders he was willing to go somewhere else?

Others that could be on the trade block in Las Vegas are Jackson Powers-Johnson, Eric Stokes and a report at the end of the week said the Raiders have taken calls on third-year tight end Michael Mayer.

According to Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer, Powers-Johnson is a player the Raiders have been listening to offers on, but they have been turning away teams calling about Mayer and Stokes.

“Teams have called on TE Michael Mayer (whom Vegas could actually extend in the offseason) and CB Eric Stokes, and have been told no,” Breer reported on Friday.

One other note worth pointing out after Sunday’s game is that Ashton Jeanty only carried the ball 13 times against the Jaguars.

Unlike previous weeks, the Raiders were in the game for all five quarters, and the coaching staff (or play callers, more specifically) clearly made a conscious decision to go away from him.

It was clear after the bye week that head coach Pete Carroll wanted to recommit to the running game, and that didn’t happen. The Raiders’ defense was on the field for just over 42 minutes against the Jaguars and appeared to be exhausted in the overtime period.

Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly has been wearing out his welcome among the fan base… could the head coach soon consider joining that parade?

  1. The Old guy is LOST!!! Now they will Destroy the only players they have with NFL talent – trade them away for mediocre Value… but why? The Old Coach has, at most, one more Year left – and I do mean at most – and this year is already down the Drain. MARK… GET A REAL HEAD COACH!!!! And Not Belichick… not unless Brady drops 5 – 10 years and plays again. Belichick STUNK before and After Brady… can’t even coach at the NCAA Level. Look at New England – they hire Mike Vrable… BOOM First Place in the East immediately. DESCIPLINE BABY!!! Details Baby!!! Trenches Baby!! No F’n Old Man Happy Talk “We just need a little more Practice” “More Reps for Geno” after all – he has Only been in the League for 13 Years with Half Azz Play. Yeah a Few more reps should do it… Watch the opposing fans Grow and Grow at Allegiant for the rest of the Home Season. The Stadium is Very Pretty but hosts a Hor$e Cr@p Organisation… another Year Gone already by an UnCoached Team.

  2. Pete Carroll hadn’t earned the right to scapegoat Chip Kelly, given his own blunders. The Raiders made Donte Thornton inactive, and if Jack Bech played, I didn’t notice it…. All so Pete could roll out the ghost of Tyler Lockett, who produced…. Nothing. He continues to roll out Devin White and Elandon Roberts even though the scouting report every week tells teams they can scorch the Raiders over the middle. It all feels so pointless.

    1. The question is, WHY is this GM allowing Pete to bring in his old former players? Especially after his major screw up of trading for Geno???!!! Mind-boggling, how this organization is ran.

  3. Mentally I’ve checked out from this organization, but if they trade JPJ I might be totally done until Mark sells.

There’s ZERO reason to trade that guy when he is our few pieces of young talent on the OL.

This organization is asinine. First they say no to Sam Darnold cuz Tom Brady says he can’t play & now this crap.

  4. Get rid of both coaches, both of them are over the hill. They need young coaches. By the way it would be great if mark sells the team, he’s definitely not his dad. Not even in the same ballpark.

  5. Now you all see that this was a bad idea to bring in Pete Carroll and dismantle Raiders on both sides of the ball. Let a lot of starters from last year’s team walk. Another lost season
