Is Raiders Voice Greg Papa Hoping To Join The 49ers?

“Touchdoooooown Raaaaaiiiiders!”

That has been the familiar call of Greg Papa since he began as the Raiders play-by-play voice in 1993.

Over the years, Papa has become one of the most trusted and likable personalities associated with the Raiders, but according to The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami, Papa may be angling to land a new role… with the 49ers.

What??

Talk about a kick to the nu…thing would upset Raider fans more than to hear Papa calling games for the team across the bay.

Al Davis surely wouldn’t cast his blessing upon such an idea as he didn’t wish good fortune upon many (any?) faces that fled the Raiders for an arch enemy.

There are very few, if any, who speak with more respect and admiration for the late Raiders owner than Greg Papa, so it would be a strange twist in his career to see him take his talents to the 49ers.

Then again, maybe Papa doesn’t want to live in Las Vegas and isn’t interested in the commute from the Bay Area to the desert land.

He has to work somewhere, right?

I mean, this isn’t DeAngelo Hall we’re talking about here. The Raiders aren’t going to pay their play-by-play voice big money to live in Oakland and do nothing.

  1. Papa seems as invested in the Raiders as any real fan. It would be shocking. Does he want to stay in the bay that badly?

  2. Off season chatter

He does not need to live there to broadcast the games.

Money will get him to Vegas on Thursdays and Back Dunday night. He will get paid and be the guy

    Raiders!!!

  3. Pap obviously would like to stay in the Bay Area. That’s ok! Raiders in new home needs to freshen up the Radio play by play announcers. Dig up Bill King!!!!

  4. I have insider info that he will not be going with the Raiders to LV. Sad day for Raider Nation. But just as many players have gone on to play for other teams, he will always be a RRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaiiiiiiddddddeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr!

Thanks for memories Greg. One more to go. Let’s bring home that trophy Raiders!

    1. Why wouldn’t he? Raiders will pay for the him to get to Vegas on Friday night’s and him to come back Sunday night. Would be a joke if he becomes a traitor and butters up to Niners like the rest of the Game. Smh

    1. You don’t know that. The move is still two or 3 seasons away. It’s all negotiation.

  6. Why can’t he fly in on game days ? Half the fans will . Give him a charter

  8. Though I’ll miss Papa if he’s leaving, really doesn’t matter whoever is broadcasting unless Raiders win.

  9. Greg Poppa never was a Raiders fan and never will be. Hate to break the news to everyone but if you’ve ever heard him call a game the most exciting thing for him is to call a touchdown…. he isn’t a Raiders fan guys, we get caught up rooting for guys that don’t even belong. Let him go and show his true colors. It’ll be refreshing to hear a play by play caller that actually calls the game. You don’t need a Raiders fan, we need a good play by play guy. It’s not like he’s getting a contract for ESPN….

  10. It wont break my heart because he’s really not that good other than his signature touchdown call, He works fine on TV, because your eyes can inform you while he talks. But on the radio he is simply awful. He doesn’t keep the listener updated with down and distance stuff like what was gained on the last play or now whats the situation. He typically goes off on some tangent about a play he wants to detail, but in the process you’re basically lost on what was the actual outcome of the play. Besides, if he is all too willing to jump ship to call 49er’s, who the F wants to listen to the POS give a POS broadcast anyway? Not me.

  11. He already seems to be kissing the niners butts on radio and his co host is a diehard niner fan. They talk constantly about the “great” jimmy-g and niner and giant talk constantly even though it’s the a”s and raider radio station. But I don’t blame him, Vegas is a shithole and the move will devastate the team and the real raider fans

  13. GOOD! Personally I can’t stand that dudes voice. It’s like nails on a chalkboard
