It’s Time To Turn Over The Raiders Offense To Derek Carr

With Marshawn Lynch out this week, the Raiders offense may have to resort to another week of pitch and catch.

It’s not the kind of ‘big boy’ ball that head coach Jack Del Rio prefers, but it might be exactly what the team needs at this juncture in the season.

The Raiders didn’t win 12 games a year ago behind clock management and a ball control offense. The offense got rolling last year when the scripted plays went out the window (most weeks it took until at least halftime).

Del Rio has earned the reputation of being a gambler in Oakland, but it feels like he may have clung to his conservative roots in re-branding the offense.

For four weeks when the Raiders weren’t running, they were trying to establish an ultra-conservative passing game.

That has Del Rio all over it.

Many blamed offensive coordinator Todd Downing, but when he was promoted, the plan was to give more freedom to Carr within the offense.

That hasn’t been happening.

When Carr isn’t held back, he’s a cold-blooded killer – not a check down Charlie.

On 4th and 1, he’s as likely to go deep as he is to run up the middle – unpredictable and almost always aggressive.

That hasn’t been happening.

The fingerprints of someone other than Carr have been all over the Raider offense and maybe it took a few losses to rethink what works again.

Just trust your quarterback, baby.

  1. Carr has been the problem on offense. He’s had more control at the line of scrimmage and was the one who audibled to a QB draw on 3rd and 10 against KC. If you remember, that was the play that eventually got Marshawn ejected. Unfortunately, Carr’s finger prints have been all over the offense so far and he hasn’t been handling it very well.

    1. That was a smart play call just wasn’t executed well if you look at it he had all the space he needed to get the 1st but the line didn’t block well

    2. You’re an idiot! The inconsistent defense and the vanilla play calling has been the problem. And if you go back and look at that play, had he got past the first line of defense it would have been a first down. There wasn’t a defender within 15 yards past the line of scrimmage. Know your facts before you talk ****!
