Raiders Insider Says Jakobi Meyers Asking for Nowhere Near $30 Million Per Year

Jakobi Meyers looked like a no. 1 wide receiver on Sunday against the Patriots, and if the Raiders keep dragging their feet to re-sign him, Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter believes it’s going to cost them.

Meyers will eventually get a new deal and if it’s the Raiders, they are making the decision to write a bigger check every week he performs the way he did in week one.

“Every game that he continues to play, the price goes up,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. “Jakobi was not asking anywhere near 30 million and I’m not guessing. I know exactly what Jakobi was asking for. It was not even close to 30 million and he’s not asking for it today, even with the Lions giving their number one receiver I think it was $34 million.”

“He’s not asking that. But the longer this goes on, and he continues to play at the level he did Sunday; the price is going to keep going and going up.”

Carpenter didn’t say what Meyers is looking for in a new deal, but it doesn’t seem like the sides have been close to reaching an agreement.

Maybe the Raiders want to see Meyers prove his value for another year before giving him a new contract, but there’s no question his teammates feel like he has earned it.

In fact, Carpenter says Meyers’ teammates and the coaching staff are going to do everything they can to help his cause.

“That locker room is going to keep feeding him. Pete Carroll is going to keep feeding him. Geno [Smith] is going to keep feeding him,” Carpenter continued. “He’s going to keep accumulating numbers. They all want him to get his contract.”

  1. Just shut Hondo. “I know for a fact he’s not asking for 30 mill” however I’m not going to tell how much he is asking for. Also I’m not going to tell you how much the Raiders have offered because I don’t know that either. So basically Hondo “knows” about as much as anyone relatively familiar with the situation.

    1. lol! Exactly he is the most insufferable “reporter” I’ve ever seen. I don’t think Glenn Dickey & Dave Newshouse were this egocentric

  2. Consummate professional. Clean character. Not a top 15 number one receiver in the league. A cap friendly two year contract yes.Don’t overpay him. He’s not irreplaceable.

  3. Jakobi Myers is a face of the RAIDERS period. Pay the guy. He plays with heart and people love him

    1. Looks like Brady brought his penny pinching mentality over from his NE days! Hope they pull their heads out, and see what’s obvious to us fans.

  4. The team is sunk without Jacoby! Other than Bowers, they don’t have a wr that can get open consistently plus with the mediocre running attack they’ll be pushing for a top 5 or 10 pick next season. Jacoby is certainly worth a decent contract!
