Former Raiders and Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden is going to return to coaching in the NFL. It’s only a matter of when he’s going to come back.
That was the message from former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason this week on his New York radio show, and Esiason believes Gruden will be back in the league within the next two years.
“I’m telling you right now, (I made a) couple calls last night… I can confirm that he definitely wants to get back in. One hundred percent,” Esiason said on WFAN’s Boomer and Gio.
“I can also confirm, and I believe this to be true… this is, again, my opinion after speaking to at least two different people that are involved in coaching searches and things of that nature, that there are teams that are interested in him. If it’s not this year, it’s definitely next year. But he’s coming back. He’s definitely coming back.”
One of the easiest team connections to Gruden is the Raiders, especially considering there were rumors Mark Davis experienced some regret for caving to the NFL and parting ways with Gruden in 2021.
But the path to Las Vegas will be more difficult this time around if Gruden wants to return to the Raiders.
With no clear answer at quarterback in Las Vegas, the job isn’t as desirable as it once was. There is also a new ownership partner with the Raiders that doesn’t necessarily have a connection to Gruden.
In fact, Gruden was the head coach in Las Vegas that turned down Brady’s bid to sign with the Raiders in 2020.
“I worked to put a deal together for Brady and Gronk to come to the Raiders,” UFC president Dana White said two years ago. “It was almost a done deal, and at the last minute, Gruden blew the deal up and said he didn’t want them. All hell broke loose. It was crazy. Brady was already looking at houses. So Las Vegas would have had Brady and Gronk the year the Bucs won the Super Bowl, except Gruden blew the deal up.”
Even if Brady doesn’t hold a grudge, the belief is that he is more likely to push the organization toward a coach he has more history with.
Two names that have connections to Brady are Bill Belichick and Mike Vrabel, both of whom are expected to be top candidates in this year’s NFL coaching pool.

He better not come back to the raiders. He had too much control. Mayock was his puppet. More of a glorified GM. More of a fall guy for Chuckies terrible decisions
Bicaccia and Mayock never should’ve been fired
Bears now please!
so brady makes the decisions & not davis? a minority owner is in charge?
Yes yes yes. Come home to Las Vegas asap and bring 33 yo Derek Carr with you. I wish Josh Jacobs the best where he is at. Never say ‘you can’t come home again’.
Same as with players who do stupid shxt, if you can still throw, catch, or in this case coach, someone will give you a job. But he sucked as a coach the last time around! This isn’t the Raiders coach of yesterday! He’s been off the field for a few years and I’ll tell you if I was his player, another coach, or one of his female staff members I’d be looking for another job. Gruden was my favorite coach until I saw his true racist, homophobic, sexist personality. Others are out there, I know, but at least they didn’t put it out there. He’s just mad cuz he got caught. There is no place for a thinker like this except perhaps in DC. Go ask DJT for a job, you’ll fit right in.
I can’t understand why nobody with the Raiders is talking about Gruden coming back to the team. R U kiddin me ? After all the snake bit **** we’ve been thru since the glory days , why would anyone want to deny us the only oasis of water we’ve had between the Raiders of the early to mid 80s and today . Gruden has been it ! We’ve had no luck with anybody else. That’s the truth. So let’s go with what’s worked before! What in the f—— is there to think about ? Some team will grab him . We missed Harbaugh several months back . That’s enough stupid football managing . Let’s not blow this opportunity . He has the talent , he has the type of character and personality we are lacking and need , and he’ll be available . The only question is , will Mark Davis make the job interesting enough for Gruden to accept . it he did once before in 2018. And he has the resources to do it again . Al Davis back in 2021 , would have told Gruden ….
No you’re not resigning . Don’t worry about it .
You just get back out there and coach the team , you let me worry about Goodell. Besides he doesn’t worry me . Just coach baby , and I’ll take the heat. If the Commissioners office doesn’t like it , he can go f—- himself , and I’ll see that sumbitch in court. And anyone with any common sense , brains and a sense of their own safety , wants to oppose Al Davis in court. The man was undefeated in front of a Judge .
Headline——- Al Davis got rid of Gruden. Remember?
Gruden Telesco. Telden? Grusco?
Stay way! We don’t need another retread as HC. It was a huge mistake to bring this morally corrupt man back as head coach the last go round. The game has passed him by, very obvious. Then again, no telling what dim witted Mark will do!?
