A week ago, one of the hot topics at Raiders’ training camp was the interior of the offensive line and whether or not Jackson Powers-Johnson was going to beat out Alex Cappa at right guard.
Cappa was somewhat of a surprise signing by the Raiders when he agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal with the team in March, but leading up to a rib injury last week, it looked like Cappa might wiggle his way into the starting lineup.
Now it’s starting to feel he might not make the 53-man roster.
Former color commentator Lincoln Kennedy talked about the Raiders’ offensive line on Sunday, and he believes Cappa has missed too much time to feel good about his chances of making the team.
“I don’t think Alex Cappa makes the final roster. I think they find a way to get out of it, so I just want to throw that tidbit out there,” Kennedy said on the Locked on Raiders Squad Show podcast.
“I’m not waiting for him anymore. I’m not waiting for him to show up,” Kennedy continued. “And it’s no slight against him. If you’re hurt, you can’t do it. I certainly respect that. But we’re in a performance-based evaluation and we do that. There’s a game that has to go on. The show must go on. We need people. We don’t need bodies to stand on the sidelines holding clipboards.”
For what it’s worth, Raider Nation radio host ‘JT the Brick’ shared a message last week that was consistent with Kennedy’s message.
JT didn’t mention Cappa, but he believes the new coaching staff in Las Vegas isn’t going to be particularly patient when it comes to injuries.
“That’s another big thing I know. Oh, I better bite my tongue. You better get out of the tub with this group. Same with Gruden,” JT the Brick said on his weekly Raider Nation Radio show. “If you couldn’t get healthy with Gruden. Goodbye. I have a feeling these guys, they’re not going to be very patient. Get back on the field as soon as you can.”
It will be interesting to see how Cappa’s situation plays out because two years, $11 million is a big contract to unload without playing a game, and the Raiders’ offensive line isn’t necessarily deep with experience behind the current starting five.

Thayer Mumford will probably be looking for work also
No big loss there, he’s a career backup at best.
As he should be
