La Canfora: Raiders May Pursue Jenkins, Osemele, Weddle; Lose Penn

Armed with over $70 million in salary cap space, every indication is the Raiders are preparing to spend heavily in free agency. Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole said the Raiders have made it clear to everyone that they won’t allow money to get in the way of getting the players they want. Cole said the Raiders are aware they were used to drive up prices in free agency last year, and plan to make “over the top” offers this year to avoid being used as a decoy again.

The only free agent Cole linked specifically to the Raiders is Chargers’ safety Eric Weddle, although it shouldn’t require an “over the top” offer to sign Weddle.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora weighed in on free agency earlier in the week and was a little more provocative in his speculation. He expects Rams’ cornerback Janoris Jenkins to be near the top of the Raiders wish list and added that Donald Penn’s time in Oakland may have come to an end:

“[I can see them] bringing back Tyvon Branch or maybe adding Eric Weddle from the rival Chargers. That’s something that’s been discussed internally as well. They may lose their left tackle Donald Penn. Maybe they’re in on Kelechi Osemele who can play guard, right tackle, and left tackle. He’s going to get monster bucks. I wouldn’t rule out, if they’re able to do it for maybe multiple second-round picks or something like that, a move for Muhammad Wilkerson, somebody else with real pass rush chops, somebody you can move around inside, outside, take some pressure off Khalil Mack.”
